Your Significant Games
Everybody has a significant game(s) for every genre, so let's share em.
For RPGs
Chrono Trigger - was the first RPG I really got into and actually beat. One of the greatest games of all time no doubt.
FF8 - I really got into the FF series after this great game.
Super Mario RPG - The second RPG I beat and played over and over and over again. After this RPG I began exploring other RPGs I've missed during the SNES days.
For FPS
Doom II - I played Doom II on my Uncle's PC first. Hours and hours of fun.
Return To Castle Wolfenstein - After playing Doom II, a bit of Quake I and a lot of Duke Nukem 3D, I completely stopped playing FPS because they
were getting very boring. RTCW brought me back to FPS. Also the first FPS game to play multiplayer with regularly.
Descent - It was unique. Can't find games like that anymore. A real shame as well. Fun single player.
For RTS
Warcraft I- It was literally the first game (First game pirated as well) on my first PC (Pentium 120). The graphics were crude, even for the time, but it was addicting and I loved it.
Starcraft - Simply one of the most ingenius games of its time.
Warcraft II - I played the Single Player for like 2 years, it was great.
Warcraft III - First actual online play with an RTS.
SimCity 2000 - First SimCity game I actually liked. I didn't like the first one. It was kick ass (after I cheated with $100000/Year code).
For Simulation
Commanche - I didn't know how to fly the damn helicoptor, but when I did get it off the ground it was very very kick ass. I was young at the time, but I enjoyed it greatly.
Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries - First game I played multiplayer with. I actually made my own clan and stuff, it was real great. I learned how to type from that game as well.
For Action Platform
Super Mario World - Greatest platformer ever. I played this first.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - Equally great along side with Super Mario World.
Megaman X - First game to introduce me to the Megaman Series.
Super Metroid - I rented this game til I beat it. It took several 1 week rentals, but it was worth it. I loved it dearly
For Racing
Megarace - First Racing game I've played and enjoyed. I think I beat it, I'm not sure.
P.S - I'm missing a genre or two. I think

Never played it. But the ones I've listed aren't my "most favourite" games. It's more how they've impacted my gaming life.

Well lets see, I havent played most of those games but I do like the ones I did play...
Adventure/RPG
Quest for Glory 4: Shadows of Darkness, funny and adventurous, not too much skill
Ultima VII Pagan-great fusion between action and Adventure/roleplaying, the saved game was invented for this
Zelda Ocarina of time-Nintendo classic, I had a peculiar feeling after beeting it.
Castle of the Winds-2d, very bad resolution, but fun nonetheless.
FPS
Halo-my first good FPS experience on Xbox
JKII-Realized FPS existed for PC too, loads of fun opened new doors
RTS
Starcraft-duh!
Master of Orion- very fun game!!!!!!! best RTS for me ever!!
Simulation
Xwing
Tie fighter-Great flying space sims, logged a lot of hours on these babies
Racing-
SF rush
Crazy Taxi-Mediocre games but best racing I have done, not really into racing
2d linear adventure
Original Duke Nuke
Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure
Commander Keen
Jazz Jackrabbit- Classic Shareware, had to love em all
Megaman- The reason to go over to the house of the kid you hated.
Fighting
Mortal Kombat-Fatality anyone?
Sports- Triple PLay Baseball 97-1st prominant game I could master, Colorado Rockies to World Series
Please tell me if you too have enjoyed some of these less mainstream games that I got addicted too!

I'm not going to categorize, either. I just got in from a long day's work. These are games I just about couldn't get away from until I finished them.
The game that got me into gaming -- PERIOD:
Tex Murphy - The Pandora Directive. (And, Under a Killing Moon & Overseer.)
Descent 3 and Mercenary
DEUS EX
Deep Space Nine: The Fallen
Max Payne 1 & 2
Syberia
The Longest Journey
Rune
Call of Duty
BloodRayne
Final Fantasy 8 (VERY Immersive Story!)
For online gaming:
Deadly Dozen: Pacific Theater and Line of Sight: Vietnam. (I put up a dedicated server for these from time to time.)
There are others I'm sure I'm overlooking for now.

Let's see
RPG/Action RPG
Kingdom Hearts - My first first person rpg.
Final Fantasy - Very first RPG game I played.
Final Fantasy3/6j - My favorite RPG game, excellent story and game engine(for it's time)
RTS
Total Annihilation - First rts game to use real time physics and as far as I can see the only one except TA:Kingdoms. Well maybe Command and Conquer- Generals but I haven't really been able to test the games engine out yet as I don't own that game. Also has the largest RTS maps I have ever seen it's 63x63 maps huge they make Starcraft 256x256 maps look miniscule (like comparing a 32x32 to a 256x256) and even make Rise of Nations Huge maps look like a small in comparison. Of course don't send the slowest unit across the map. 40mins anyone? Large armies and nukes required + about 2-3hrs+ of free time. Also this game is a modders dream, first I have seen to have addable units and custom map skins.
Rise of Nations - What can I say I like the concept of country boarders and upgrading through the ages in real time
Warcraft 2 - Introduced me to RTS games and just made me want a better game engine. ( I like selecting groups of 100 not 9 or 12(starcraft-yes I know about the other controls but why when I can just select them all at once) and queing near infinite groups of units(100+ not 12 or so) to be built so I can deal with the battle and resource management not army creation)

Yeah but with Atari/Infogrames/(whatever they want to call themselves now) having there hands in it is the game even going to be as good as the original? Oh well I think I will wait until Chris Taylor from GasPowerdGames releases his RTS game. I think that will be the true successor to TA. Since even DungeonSiege uses the easily modifiable game programming structure that he used on TA.
Which reminds me.
Action RPG
Diablo - first overhead point and click kill rpg.
DungeonSiege - The TA of point and click kill rpg's. Highly modifiable, 3d, easy to control, and lots of mods. What more can I ask for. Also is the reason I bought a Radeon and an AthlonXP to begin with. My system reaked of 6fps. 450k6/2, a Voodoo3, and 128mb of 60ns 72pin edo memory.... Unplayable

Ohh, almost chickened out on posting here but I just couldnt.. I know I will miss many now lol
Phantasy Star
Baldur's Gate (all of them)
Splinter Cell
Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards (awesome.. such a classic!)
King's Quest I
Reunion
Freespace 2
Diablo (1st is still the best = fact, hehe)
Command & Conquer (so fed up w/ the RTS genre now tho...)
Elite Force II (greatest surprise for a while actually, splendid game)
Marble Madness (old classic, Amiga 1000 days)
Very hard to compare the above. Not as much as how good I think they are today but more what awesome memories I have playing them! Could continue that list forever so I'll just stop here.
