motherboard sickener.
I got my new motherboard and processor a couple of days ago
I built the machine in my lian-li case
board MSI - 865PE - Neo 2 LS.
Processor P4 (800) 2.6ghz.
Turned on the board ...
Dead. The fan lights up inside but no bios screen
anyway tried my old processor P4 2.4 works fine.
so I then update the bios to version 1.4
anyway tried the p42.6 ... still dead.
Then I tried the 2.6 in my old board Asus P4PE
Works fine ... uh ?
Ive tried everything possible so I have had to send the board and
processor back to the supplier
http://www.scan.co.uk
I am waiting on a replacement.
It seems weird but the board seems uncompatable with my chip ...
When I tried running the board with my old chip it seemed to be a really good
fast motherboard, my games seemed to run smoother on my ATI 9700 card.
Are these boards just crap?
I normally only go with Asus, Abit or Gigabyte anyone else had problems with this board.

You must have got a bad board or something, MSI makes quality mainboards and video cards.... I have been using their products for a long time in my personal systems....MSI K7N2 Delta L Nforce 2 board actually at the moment...

Anyway I sent for a replacement and
my friend rang up for me while I went away for a few days.
Scan said that the board and processor is ok. They
fired it up with thier memory and it worked.
They sent it back to me so I built it again and then put my old
kingston DDR400 in the machine and guess what?
It still doesent work, Ive tried putting different DDR memory in.
Now when I turn on the machine (at the powersupply)
The machine turns on but theres no display ( No change )
the machine just starts up and the powerswitch doesent even work.
Ive tried swapping the powerswitch jumper back, Wires from the box / +,-
It just comes on when power is supplied to the board. Its Insane
I cant understand it. I dont know what to do now.
Scan even charged me for sending the board back. ...

Has anybody got any ideas of what I should do next?
I cant write no tunes or play any games, I feel bad.

Are you sure your power switch headers are all in the right place? HD leds and everything else too? Man that sounds like a weird problem, like something is wired up wrong.

That would be my first suggestion too, it also sounds like something is bridging the power switch pins if it comes on as soon as it gets juice. Try disconnecting them all, HDD Led and everything , switch the power on at the socket and make the connection manually between the two pins (small flat bladed screwdriver will do it) to see if it starts up then.

I wish I had seen this thread before.
I could have possibly saved you the hassle of sending back the board.
All you have to do is to stick your old processor in and go into the bios, set the memory timings manually.
Not spd as those are too tight and the board refuses to boot.
Ideally you want to set them to 2.5-4-4-8
Save and exit.
Install the new processor and it should boot up.
Very very common problem.

I actually had to do that with my MB because the vendor tested it on a 400 fsb AMD before they shipped it-
clearing the cmos helps too.

well its now November and I have been using my old 2.4 gig p4 for a while
I have now just got my 2.6 back (I lent it a mate).
Im trying to get it to work, all leads are connected up properly
I havent got a different processor now to set the memory to a slow speed
anyone got any Ideas?
(the machine comes on and you cannot turn it back off and theres no post screen!)
(I have now tried to boot the machine with a p4 2.0 gig and then set the memory to the slow settings but that didnt work either when I tried my p4 2.6).
Sod it im selling the shitty MSI board. Thanks for the Info anyway.

Didn't you just say that you had your old 2.4 P4??
Stick that in, set the memory timings to 2.5-4-4-8 save and exit.
Replace it with the 2.6c and voila.

Esaz666 this is something else. There is obviously a setting wrong. As I would like to note, my 865PE Neo2 is a solid board. As you can see by my sig....

I cant work it out
Maybe its my memory (kingston pc400) ive tried using different DDR Dimms , no joy
ive tried the 2.6 processor in different boards and it works in every other board ive tried.
ive tried a 2.0gig p4 that works in it, also ive tried 2.4 that works in it.
the only thing I havent tried is running the processor (2.6) at 800 buss speed because nobody i know has a
865/875 board .
I have tried lowering the memory speeds, I have tried removing all componats 1 at a time and updated the bios 3 times , Nothing seems to work ... I cant be bothered with it any more.
The little D-bracket at the back with the LED lights lights up all four lights when I turn the machine on
which means ' The processor is damaged or is not installed properly '. But the processor works in any other boards I have tried.
what a boring bastard I am, I bet everyones sick of this.
oh well, maybe its something else but MSI you suck.
Im selling it tommorow and getting an ASUS.
thanks to everyone who gave me advice.

Cheers for all the help every1, I have bought a new board
an ASUS p4c800.
