Site loads fine, but, yes, it doesn't respond immediately all the time.

I'd put a lot of money on the ads being the problem.

Actually, the only problem i've ever really been having...is the annoying thing of clicking a link...and given either a error.... or page done (but all white).... now, i know it's not my machine... (tried it on both)... and i know it's not from the messup that happened a good month ago... because i've completely reinstalled windows since..... What would happen if i had a super fast connection....loading it to fast? (i've got my posts per page set to 100)

Ive seen this error myself, not sure whats causing it, its intermittant and not too often. I would also set the posts to page to default.

I have each page showing 100 posts too, so that is probably contributing to the little slow-down I see-
It's worth it to me though, so I don't constantly have to go to the next page when reading through a thread. The sites a lot faster than it was when I first posted here too- It must have been some quirk w/ the ads.

If the ads keep this place up and running, then I welcome them.

yeah I agree Johnny as I said, I HATE ads, and I tried to run the site initially with no ads, but as it grew and took more bandwidth we had to move to dedicated server (T3 line), well its actually 3 servers now for the whole network, and as you would imagine its not $10 a month you know

Me too- I don't have a problem with them either- But itf it is the ads causing any slowdowns, the ad company should fix it. But I am thinking that there is no easy fix for whatever the problem is (on occasion) or it would already have been done. It's back to normal here for me.

I'm not sure how it works, but I think the ads come from a different server- and if that server (where ever it is) is slow- then it kinda hangs DH a little. I also notice sometimes that other websites use the same adserver- and that those sites are slow at the same time, if there is a problem /w the adserver. I dunno- it's all pretty complicated.

then when you consider the distance/time of day were there coming from aswell might put a little strain on servers.

Actually, even with my posts per page set to 100, it only take 1/4 of a second... i've never had a problem with the sites speed.... (well only, one the off ocation of of abvious problem)........ the only odd problem i've had with load time is that when i load a thread containing either zardons or wyrethewolfs signature (flash), it either fails.. (white) or it doesn't show loading at all, you have to wait for the complete thread to load befor it shows anything (all you can see is white, and if zardons signature is within the window, it shows it but white all around...).. i never had good like with flash....

I'd rewrite the code so that the ads get inserted after the page has loaded, if I was an ad company.

flash is on every page, the DH logo at the bottom, so it cant be flash causing any issues for you, or it would be every page. try clearing your browser cache and all temp files.

oh, forgot about that the flash at the bottom.... maybe it's the size of the flash.... (i think flashes default cache is 128kb or something...i should see if i could set it larger...
BTW
i ended up with a popup error of some sort twice just lately....
Happened right after loading the forum
http://206.172.2.40/~judas/ScreenSho...hatthehell.jpg
Sorry, i couldn't shrink it ...and tried to compress it as much as possible...
