exclamation Star wars Galaxies

Now that the nda is lifted I thought I'd write a little article on the beta of SWG. Is it worth your money($109cdn for the boxed and $60 for the regular plus station fees)?

There's a mixed reaction to the beta. Well, first you must ask yourself the question: What is star wars without the force? You know its central plot device. You know that thing missing from the beta completely. In fact I'm told it won't even be in till early next year, but I have not checked the message boards in a few months. No force in a MMORPG = star trek MMORPG. Which there's nothing really wrong with per say...

Graphically its fairly well done. You'll be impressed by the almost complete lack of load times. A trend that all MMORPG games should try to achieve. Its got rolling fields and a few worlds... while the foliage may seem sparce on a few planets the worlds feel alien... But I'm not sure you would say they feel star wars. Hah, nothing so ambiguous of me, just that you won’t recognize anything you've seen in the movies ok? The cities you might, just not the countryside. Sounds, awesome, canned right from the movie.

Oh they got light sabers right? Uh, no not yet as they are used by those with the force. The coolest things everyone would want in a MMORPG and they don’t exist yet. They will, but is it worth your cash yet? No. I will play it, but I'm going to wait till the new year. The game itself will be much cheaper and things will be implemented.

In conclusion I really wish they would wait and get more things implemented before pushing these products out the door. It seems like they try to get working builds with "just enough" and sell the rest of the game as they develop it at a slower pace as "new features", when they were probably planned to be in from the beginning, to a point of course. Happy RPGing.

It would be a bit odd with loads of people running around with lightsabers though (heck i cant even name 10 people from the movies that had em)... not like its Jedi Knight Online :P

What im kinda outraged about is the high cost, just a couple years ago the standard was 10$ a month and now its put to new heights with 15$...

Actually anyone outside the US can still order a US copy and play on the US servers. Thats what im doing at least... although that near 20$ per month thingy is kinda not making me a happy camper. Not to mention I had to pay up to 80$ to get my US copy on import...
