Hallelujah! Praise the hand coders!
Well. . . we aren't that good. However, we do beat the WYSIWYG editors any day.

Handcoding is great but if your just making static pages Dreamweaver Rocks and saves you time. But when Im working with ASP, ect. You have to handcode theirs really no way around it. Ultra Dev will only do so much.

I hand coded every website I've ever done, most notably layeroffrost.com and estabrooksinsurance.com.
At one time my front page was less than 6k...and was awesome looking...hehe

99% of my internet stuff needs to be generated, so I always code it by hand.
Plus, you know exactly whats being sent and how it should look leaving you with much more control over things

I learned how to handcode first, so that's what I always do. Don't use a program like HomeSite though. Just my trusty notepad.

talkin about handcodding. Anybody know of a nice, small and fast color coded equivalent to notepad? I've been using Notepad+ and Textpad under XP and VI under linux (man i really want to kill myself), but I'd really like to have an application that looks and feels like Homesite, but that is less bulky. Any suggestions?

Ofcourse I hand code
Infact I got an F in "Web Design" class in HS because I didn't obey the "we use dreamweaver" rule.

Hell ya!
Of course. Hand coding in HTML, ASP, PHP, Javascript, etc. is the best way to go. You have entire control over your code.

Yeah I would love to have somethng as small as notepad but w/ syntax highlighting.
I found a few on google but they all had a win 95 or 3.1 look to it.
I did notice that in that Doom 3 video that was put out during E3 John Carmack was using something when he was coding that kinda looks like what I would like. It looked like notepad but w/ syntax highlighing.

Gotta do it by hand. Whenever I've experimented with dreamweaver of GoLive, I've always had to redo most of it by hand. GoLive isn't bad though if it's just pure HTML...
edit: had to correct the spelling... just couldn't let it be

That's a little strange since most people have better luck using a WYSIWYG editor like Dreamweaver than hand-coding it. Not a bad thing, but it just seems we | |
