HomePNA?? Or not....

I was thinking about networking all the computers in my house. We only have one telephone line and aren't exactly blessed with DSL, Broadband...just dial-up. I was thumbing through some sites, and to me HomePNA seems like the best option for me, since i really don't want to thread wires through my house. I was wondering what thoughts could be given about this, since i haven't really had any experience with Networking, any sites would also be helpful. Thanks!

HomePNA was a curious technology that really never caught on in a big way. I remain convinced that CAT-5 networks are your best option. If you really don't want to string wires, wireless LANs are an option. As far as I can recall, I haven't heard anything bad about HomePNA, except that it's not as fast as the alternatives. But since all you've got it DUN, and provided that you don't intend to do a lot of file transfer, HomePNA ought to be okay.

I have a homepna 2.0 network at my house(10Mbps aka 1 meg/sec) and i have 4 computers sharing a cable modem, and it works great, plus no cables flying around. On average, between computers i get 900-1024k/sec transfers, so its decent, just make sure you are getting a newer card and not the first generation ones which were really slow

yeah, but the problem is is that i'm running a 56k connection here..., is there any technology that dosen't rely on some sort of broadband, or highspeed connection? I'm relatively new at this, so i'm not sure...

it doesn't revolve around broadband, hpna 2.0 just involves how fast you go between computers in your house. if you are using 56k, the bottleneck will obviously be your connection, so you shouldn't worry about any slowdown.

you don't need anything, it works just like an ethernet network, just through the phoneline, you can share whatever you want.
