??? New to kx: S/PDIF Issues

I just formatted and reinstalled Windows XP (SP2 if it makes a difference), and decided to go with kx instead of the Creative drivers for my Audigy 2 Platinum. Most things seem to work fine (although sometimes on startup I have to reinstall the game controller driver for some reason). Except I get absolutely no sound from S/PDIF.

I have a Yamaha MO8 connected to my platinum through the S/PDIF input on the front of the dock. Playing through it creates no sound. It used to work before with the Creative drivers, and still works on my other machine with an E-MU 1818M.

Is there something I need to do to get S/PDIF to work properly in kx?

Thanks much in advance.

Check on the in/out page of the mixer to ensure the SPDIF input is not muted and raise the volume.

That was the first thing I did. Still no sound.

Are you using the default DSP config?

What type of speaker system do you have? Is it stereo only (if so, which jack is the speakers connected to?)?

Are you able to hear audio from any other inputs? From Windows?

Make sure that SPDIF Bypass mode is not enabled in kxmixer.

Are you at all familair with kX? Are you absolutely sure that you unmuted the input on the In's and Out's page? Verify that the level reads something other than "inF".

Do you see any movement on the peak plugin in the DSP when playing audio through SPDIF In?

I would assume so. I haven't touched it since I installed the drivers.

No speakers. Just headphones, plugged into the headphones jack on the audigy drive.

Yes, and yes. The microphone input works.

It reads "0".

Try a "Reset Device Settings" from the kX context menu (under Settings), and re-enable the input if necessary, etc.

Also, check the SPDIF/I2S Status (under Settings) and see if it shows anything for SPDIF input.

BTW: What version of kX did you install?

Resetting the settings didn't do anything. Here's what the SPDIF/I2S status screen said:

Quote:
SPDIF Inputs: [R-Rate Locked; S-Stream Locked; V-Valid Audio]
spdif A: unused
spdif B: unused
spdif C: unused or same as B
edit: version 5, 10, 00, 3537

3537 is a fairly old version, and I am not sure if it fully supported your card... I would suggest trying 3541 (completely remove 3537 before installing 3541).

OK I updated to 3541, and it's still not working.

Sorry, I do not know why it is not working. I am not aware of any such issues...

Do you have any other SPDIF sources you can test with (DVD player set to output PCM only, etc), just to see if it is some issue with kX and the Yamaha MO8?

How long ago was the last time you tried it with the Creative driver? If it has been a while, you might want to try the CL driver again just to verify (if nothing else) that it still works...

If the SPDIF status window shows no upcoming data, then something is wrong with hardware. Check all connections between card and drive, be sure the SPDIF signal is strong enough, use an appropriate cable.

you might try to turn off 'Swap front and Rear' option, because otherwise your optical out gets =rear= output, not =front= one

No, this has nothing to do with the problem.

I agree, swapping front/rear should not effect the SPDIF/I2S status, nor the headphone jack of the Audigy drive.
