Problems with Radeon HD 2600 XT AGP

I recently upgraded to a HIS Radeon HD 2600 XT AGP and am having a lot of problems with it on my system (Win XP, CPU: 3200bartron, MB: Gigabyte GA-7N400 PRO V2, 1gig RAM). At first it would immediately crash when trying to load game. So I used a hotfix that i found on AMD's website that fixed that problem. I then started getting blue screen of death crashes and ati2dvag.dll errors.

I updated my mb again with the version 2 drivers and that seemed to fix the problem a little bit - things were running smoother. However it would still bsd on me frequently. I uninstalled everything in safe mode and then reinstalled the drivers (first the CD, then the patch from HIS, then the hotfix from AMD) and it still crashes every time i load up a game.

I downloaded the most recent Omega Drivers and installed those and my system seems a little more stable now, i can play games for a little bit longer (been using Jade Empire and HL2 to test things out) but they still crash. Instead of the bsd however, it will flash to a black screen. It seems like the computer is still going but you cant do anything with the screen frozen and so I have to restart my computer.

I've spent almost 12 hours trying to get this damn card to work and have had little success... does anyone have any suggestions?

Also I have a really touchy SATA raid setup for my HD so I'd prefer not to have to do a reinstall of windows if it all possible.

Change the BIOS to AGP 4x instead of AGP 8x some motherboards are bad with AGP 8x.

weird... I know I've seen that option in my BIOS before, but when I went to change it the only thing I found to adjust anything relating to the AGP slot was frequency.

I have the same graphics card, and also the same cpu and motherboard that you have (bios version F11). I initially had the same problem you have, but downloaded the most recent driver for ifor the ATI card, and still had some problems in HL2 locking up. However, I had also been having problems with my sound card, and verified that that was the problem. The card was five years old, so I have recently purchased a usb studio sound system, and the crashes have gone away.

I have a sata hd but it isn't in raid format. I have two IDE hds set up on the gigabit raid channels, in raid 0 format. I've never had any problems with either the sata or raid. I've had this MB since it first came out. It's been the best MB I've ever owned. Of course, it's quite dated now, but hey, if it ain't broke, right?
