riles9262 - do you actually have one of the Guinness surge thingies that is in your avatar? I know they were trialled but never went anywhere - I would like one because I tend to drink at home now because I can't smoke in the pub anyway...

Guinness Is one of those drinks i think requires a certain level of tolerance to the taste..
for me it's one of those drinks that is among the strongest alcoholic drinks and needs to be pretty well chilled before it tastes good.
I only like a drink every so often so it's not going to help me out that much..
Now i wonder how many changes has been made since the article was originally published..

It certainly is an acquired taste, and your second point about temperature is precisely why they now sell Guinness Extra Cold - the lower temperature actually disguises the taste, which is why I will only order extra cold if the pub doesn't have normal, and if I do order extra cold, I let it sit until it's warmed up before drinking. The Extra Cold stuff was designed to entice people that didn't much like the taste of Guinness to drink more of it.

I don't know that for sure tbh, I'm just going off memory (not reliable at the best of times..)
and just btw, I drink my Guinness at near room temp too, seems to taste better that way I think
you know, you could just go the whole hog and put a full pub tap in
bet it's cheaper by the keg too
