so, 3 different coasters later, i still can't get my sp3 disk to boot
anybody help?
i've used the nlite process, and it seemed to be rather simple. it did its thing, and afterwards, the folder i created i *should* just copy those files over to my burning program (Nero), and burn a CD. i've done that before and it's worked fine before. but not now this time

it wouldnt update on windows update on mine, showed it as there, but it kept failing..
i just went for the direct download....from here..
Download Windows XP Service Pack 3: XP SP3 (Full package)
its installed on mine now, and weirdest thing is, i seem to have gained performance in windows in general....speedwise.
god knows why...
other ppl on the net mention performance gains, so it cant just be mine...........

Why don't you install the SP3 with just running the installer?
Anyway, as teme said, let nlite create ISO and burn it.

Shoot CDs - sorry it hasn't worked yet, I applaud your guts and curiosity! But, why do you want to do a "repair" installation?
There's too many installed goodies on our old Athlon running XP-SP2, so I'm gonna get the SP3 .iso and just upgrade...

Well I tried three of the Wardedn's comps, two took right away a nd one then reconized a couple of hardware updates for the VIA Rhine II NIC (Gigabyte 754 comp) and now it does seem much faster on downloads. The other success (DFI SocketA XP2700) also seems a bit quicker on downloads.
The Third has a Lot of files and is not finished yet (Hope their being in Korean doesn't slow the process too much)
All from Windows update.

When I used Windows Update it never got rid of any files... I don't think you need to use a CD.

Yeah, but then I'll have the CD, and the update process itself should be quicker, don't you think?

i'd rather just save the file to one of my HDDs and be able to just run the file directly off of that instead.

Right, that'd be quickest of all, in case you needed to rebuild the system from a pre-SP3 image - thanks!
