old nvidia vanta video controller

Not very good with computers so any and all help will be greatly appreciated.I installed windows xp in an old computer that has a nvidia video controller that I can not find a driver to correct this problem. Is there an omega driver or other driver I can use to fix this or should I just go out and buy a new one. I don't want to spend much so is there a cheap card out there my kids play some games that is where the problem started.

I could find a driver that still can support your Nvidia Vanta Videocard (NV6) under Windows XP:

WinXP/2k - (71.89)

Good luck!

I am almost sure it will work for the Vanta, since it's on the support list. But before there are the "Forceware" Drivers there are the "Detonator" drivers for Nvidia videocards. There are 9x drivers and XP versions.

I thought guru3d still have them, but the links to the detonator drivers seem to be broken. Laptopvideo2go still have them:

detonator 45.23 xp/2000 driver for 598 Nvidia graphics chipsets:
v45.23 XP/2000

detonator 41.09 xp/2000 driver for
6 mobile and 50 desktop NVIDIA GPU chipsets:
v41.09 XP/2000

There are older or newer drivers and there are also mobility drivers at the same site in case it's a mobility graphics chipset:
LaptopVideo2Go (from page 21 to page 26 for legacy chipsets). Give them all a try.

Good luck!

Matth will become famous soon enough
System Specs

Have you installed chipset drivers, you may need to install them before the graphics, though some chipset drivers for older chipsets are not needed with XP SP2. I'm thinking of the "Retro chipset" VIA 4 in 1's, that are actually older than XP SP2.

I'm assuming it is a desktop, as you say "a cheap card" as an alternative, and yes, if you want it to so even lightweight gaming, a new card would be a great improvemant, as the Vanta is a lightweight version of a very old card.

Some more specifications would be useful, as it may have:
1. At worst, just PCI and no AGP
2. Second worst, 1x/2x 3.3V AGP (caution needed when choosing a card)
3. Best example 4x 1.5V AGP, (wide choice of cards)

Even the cheapest and nastiest current card woul be way better than that Vanta.

sorry guys was out of town

thanks for everyones help. Tried 45.43 and it worked, but for some reason anytime I open a game the screen will go black and then wont start the game. It will just go back as if the game was never started. This computer is a Hp desktop w/ an Intel pent 3 in it. I noticed that there is a pci simple com controller with a ? mark next to it.
don't know what a pci card does but this is the only device I found with pci in it
hp en 1207d-tx pci 10/100 fast Ethernet adapter

no thats just the PCI controller, what chipset are you running?

Also the Vanta is really old, the latest drivers are not recomended, get the 20.xx or older for best results as they stop optimizing for your card around 2001.
