No sound at all with Audigy ZS 2
May be this is a dumb question, but Iīm a newbie to the kx drivers... I had a lot of troubke with crackling and popping using the Creative drivers with my Audigy ZS 2, thus I moved. I installed the kx, I chose them as default, rebooted... when the system starts I get sound, however it seems that when the drivers get completely loaded, I donīt get any sound at all...
Any recommendations on settings and the like? I feel a complete dumb with this (I believe) simple step. Thanks!

Uncheck the Swap Front and Rear option in kX Mixer, and use the Speaker Setup applet (in kX Mixer) to configure your speakers.

You mean the setup in "ins and outs" in the mixer?

That just worked for me too. I notice the quality isn't the same as the Creative? Maybe it needs some tweaking?
Ah, its because I'm not getting any base and center. How do I get my sub-woofer working? I search the forums

In the Speaker Setup applet there are options to enable the subwoofer output, and enable Bass Redirection, etc.
Also, in the DSP window, double clicking on a plugin opens the tweak window for those plugins that are adjustable. Try adjusting settings in there (i.e. 10BandEQ, etc).
Beyond the above, read the guides to get a basic understand of the DSP, and then you will be able to create your own custom configurations to better suit your needs and/or personal preferences, etc.

How can I access the command line? I'm having the same problem as http://www.driverheaven.net/general-...rk-silent.html
and Eugene tells him to:
Quote:
now, execute from the command line:
kxctrl -gac97 7c
kxctrl -gac97 7e
kxctrl -gac97 2a
and post the resulting numbers
/E
and
kxctrl -sac97 2a 0
|
I think this is my problem, but I'm not sure how to access the command line. I've already enabled subwoofer output and bass redirection.

That is not your problem (that was a long time ago (2003)).
In any case, kxctrl.exe is what you would use (as above), or just open kX Console (from the kX context menu), and issue the commands (without the "kxctrl -").
Beyond the above, do you have a discreet subwoofer (i.e. has its own connection to the sound card)?
How are you testing the subwoofer output? Did you try the (speaker) Test button in kX Mixer?

lol, nevermind sorry. The Bass sounds awesome in the speaker test, and the center works too.
BUT,
It's just not working with my music, and probably games (haven't tested a game yet), but I'm not getting any sound from the sub and center with the songs I've played. The right and left work though.

Regular music does not have a sub channel (i.e. it is stereo only), so you need to do upmixing to derive the center and sub channels. Enable Bass redirection in Surrounder (the Speaker Setup applet), and adjust the frequency as desired.
Also, make sure that the default device in the Windows Control panel is kX Wave 0/1.

Set the frequency and I love it thanks. It's too bad Creative is lousy with updates, but these drivers are just fine. Now I'm wondering if anyones been able to simulate EAX 3.0 ?
But I'm hoping I wont have to change the wave 'x/y' when I use other media.

Wave 0/1 is the only one that is multi-channel capable (well WaveHQ is too, but until you understand how WaveHQ works, stick with Wave 0/1), and with the default DSP config, it is the only one that can be is upmixed.

Glad to help
BTW: You should not really need to use the other Wave outputs. They (Wave 4/5, 6/7, 8/9) are more of an option thing. i.e. If you wanted to send different music to different outputs (multi-room setups, etc), you could use the other wave devices for that, etc. Also, if you are having multi-channel audio problems in games, you could try using Wave 4/5, which will basically limit the game to stereo.
As for EAX, you could simulate different EAX presets/environments, but there is no way to have those settings change dynamically without some front end doing the work, etc.

Guys... itīs clausvp again. Did all you recommended, but still no sound. Either I am too dumb or my system is a rebel without a cause. May be some Creative stuff is still messing around my system without me knowing? Should I disable the onboard audio via BIOS setup? Thanks!

Normally I would say that is not a problem. Many people have a kX compatible sound card installed plus the onboard sound.
'Toggle Swap Front and Rear' should be found on the kX Master mixer (unless that has been moved in a later version). My Internet computer is running Win 98SE with kX version 3534f, that's where the Toggle is on this version.
kXSetup is the normal way to install. I think the installation described there is for those whose installation failed trying kXsetup.
Have you looked this over?

Verify that kX Wave 0/1 is set as the default Device in the Windows Control Panel.
Click on the Reset AC97 button on the AC97 page of kxmixer.
Choose Reset Global Settings (from the kX Settings menu), and then redo your speaker setup (i.e. uncheck Swap Front and Rear again, and use the Speaker Setup applet).
Test for sound using the Test button on the Master page of kxmixer.
BTW: What model sound card do you have and what type of speaker system (analog/digital? and how many speakers)?

Letīs see... I am using an Audigy Platinum ZS 2, and also Creative speakers (2.1), in analog mode. I have not tried yet switching to SPDIF output/input from the card to the speakers (with kx settings... with the CReative drivers, I tried everything, and the crackling and popping never went away)
Thanks

OK, thanks for the info. So you tried all of the above and are still getting no sound (except when Windows first starts)?
Run sndvol32.exe (Windows Mixer) and make sure nothing is screwy in there (try muting/unmuting Master and Wave (while audio is playing)).
Verify that your speakers are connected to the analog front out jack of the sound card, and that the "Toggle Swap Front and Rear" option in kxmixer is not enabled (not checked). Alternatively, you could also try connecting your speakers to the analog rear jack, and then leave the swapping option enabled.
Beyond the above, I can only suggest a full (clean) reinstall of kx.
i.e.
Uninstall kX (I would suggest using a program like Driver Cleaner Pro to cleanup anything that the kX installer might leave behind, as well as any remnants of the Creative driver).
Boot into Safe Mode and check Device Manager for any phantom devices (remove any that you see).
Boot normally, wait for Windows to re-detect the sound card (choose cancel if it asks for a driver, etc), and then install kX.
BTW: To install, you need only run kxdrv3541-full.exe (you mentioned using kx setup, so I am not sure what method of install you used).

One more thing you can try before reinstalling kX (or after if you already removed kX, and still have problems after reinstalling):
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]
"midimapper"="midimap.dll"
"wavemapper"="msacm32.drv"
"aux"="wdmaud.drv"
"wdmaud.drv"="wdmaud.drv"
"wave"="wdmaud.drv"
"mixer"="wdmaud.drv"
"midi"="wdmaud.drv"
Copy the above and paste it into a text file, save the file as whatever.reg, then double click on .reg file to add the information to the registry. This should set some of the registry keys related to audio back to the default values (in case something that you installed has modified them (and maybe is causing the problem)).

Thanks again. When I save it through Notepad, and then double click on it, the system tells me I can only import bin files and closes the dialog. Is it ok to save from Notepad with another option to have a bin file or should I use some other text editor?
