Vista 64 bit beta driver issues

I'm using Vista Business 64 bit and I noticed I cannot install beta Nvidia video card drivers...after doing some Googling apparently 64 bit versions of vista do not allow you to use beta drivers that don't have digitally signed signatures...there is apparently a work around in which you can hit the F8 key on bootup and choose the option to 'Disable Driver Signature Enforcement'

but this only works for the current boot session...I tried this method and it still did not work every time...do I need to go into F8 every time I boot my system up with the beta drivers or only the first time I install the beta drivers?

makes it a real pain to install beta drivers in Vista

you need to press the F8 button during every boot with non-signed drivers in Vista x64. And the SP1 have made things go even worse.

Or use BootVistaPro and disable it totally. Try it, it's totally free and works well under SP1

Am I missing something here?

I've never needed to tinker with driver signing for beta nvidia drivers (or unsigned drivers for my audigy 2 zs, or for my hauppage tv tuner, etc). The only thing I've come across that's needed unsigned driver support enabled for so far is rivatuner.

I tried F8 and BootVistaPro and both don't seem to work

I must be doing something wrong then, but I can't figure out what it could be...I un-install my old "official" drivers from Add/Remove Programs, use DriverCleaner in Safe Mode reboot and install the new beta drivers...it asks me if I want to install the non WHQL drivers, I click 'Yes' and then re-boot....but after it re-boots I don't see the Nvidia Control Panel anymore (so I can't adjust any settings) and the drivers itself are not in my Add/Remove Programs list

also in MSCONFIG I have disabled "Nvidia Driver Helper Service" and "Nvidia Media Center Library"

Generally Vista64 will come up with a red popup box asking you if you still want to install the unsigned drivers, and it advises you on potential security risks. I have run into a couple drivers that wont even install properly even with the F8 method during bootup.

Yeah, the red popup box I've dealt with, but I've never had to do anything more than that.

i assume there are official drivers(i know somebody will correct me if wrong). so y use beta, i wont evne use beta in xp anymore. no real reason to unles you want to ne guinea pig for whoever.
i understand that vista still needs polish for its drivers - mostly in 64 bit, but y go through the aggravation.
of course if my assumption was wrong, pls ignore entire post

the reason I want to use a beta is because Nvidia hasn't released an official non beta driver since December 2007...that's over 5 months...and in that time they have released numerous beta drivers, some of which have been known to perform very well

as far as my original issue...I decided to do a reformat and re-install of Vista...after the reformat everything seems to be fine now regarding beta drivers...I can now install and use the Nvidia beta drivers with no problem...don't know what the issue was but whatever it was, I'm glad its gone
