My new Laptop

Satellite® A305-S6839 Laptop Computer Specs from Toshiba

I know this isnt a proper review, however I must point out that based on a recommendation by Zardon I went to the store and found to my surprise a lovely Toshiba laptop that met and exceeded my expectations for just over 500 pounds. I absolutely love the keyboard, the display and I intend to move my Pshop and pics and software to this beasty. Although my own Dell has served me well, she is long in the tooth and demands attention constantly because of my attempts to improve performance and add thinga ma jiggies to it.
It is time to move on and I must take the necessary steps into the......VISTA zone.
Luke Skywalker had to brave the unknown and so will I.
When I compared it to my old Dell, the arguments for not getting a new laptop were moot (love that word).

a piccy from the Toshiba website.

playing with this new laptop is more fun than leaning up against the washing machine on spin cycle, its worth a look.

Brilliant machine, I just upgraded the ram to 4gb and installed Vista ultimate 64bit. Quite a few manufacturers should start using Toshibas support and download site as a reference. All the drivers are easily and quickly downloaded for both 32bit and 64bit Vista.

Jeff a quick tip, if you go to clean the screen use a slightly damp cloth (just water) as some of the cleaning materials ive seen can cause smearing on the xbrite surface. Sometimes the simpliest remedies are the best. Make sure you try a 720p film on the machine too, its a fine portable multimedia solution. I am very impressed with the screen for the price.

okey doke, thanx Z
I might even get the AR series laptop with a 17 inch screen for the upstairs "man" room where I can game..(right) LOL.
The AR series is pretty well within range of anyone I think, but the weight goes up for sure.
I went to the Toshiba site to download a few things and it was just a breeze, definitely puts other sites in their poop as far as I am concerned.
I turned down an Alien, a Dell, an HP, and a Sony for this little gem because it represented the best value for the price. Toshiba has earned a new life long customer..
sorry Dell..LOL

shouldnt he use RO or distilled water in particular to clean it? ive has horrible trouble with tap water with all the minerals and impurities that dry onto surfaces like monitors and glass...

pretty bad so i like filtered water.

mmm, I am not really sure using distilled water or ionised water would make much of a difference. Sure in a watercooling unit it makes sense because impurities start to breed and cause growths over time, but on a damp cloth used quickly over a screen (it dries in seconds if it just damp)?

Don't think that is needed.

we have a suitable equivalent to what Z mentioned but it is very expensive and rather dodgy when you wipe it off. a damp cloth it is.

the thing is the impurities are very noticeable on a surface if you look for them, my water source is rather high in heavy metals and minerals. generally mild-hard water.....

and these things dont evaporate... thats why they separate in distillers.

just a lovely machine overall, and the keyboard is a treat, I like the look and feel, much better than the equivalent Sony or Dell and weighs less too.
