and i thought DDR2 was done at 2GB sticks.....

guess not, check these out.....

Newegg.com - G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

who is crazy enough to get these for a 64 bit OS?

what motherboards can even take those?

EDIT: if you thought that was bad...... look at this
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Quad Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

i could sit down with popcorn and watch peoples expressions after looking at the price though......

but once other companies see that set of RAM, theyre gonna scramble to get their own to market..... dont you just love competition?

Theres really no need for more than 8GB of RAM at this point. 16GB is just E-Peen, not to mention the performance of that RAM is terrible, and because of the densities of the IC's I wouldnt expect much out of them in terms of Overclocking.

"16GB is just E-Peen"

lol. how could i counter something like that?
there must be a need for user to expand the amount of memory on a certain system, i'm sure there will be some users who want to use the amount of memory.

Um, not even the x38 supports beyond 2gb per stick... (or at least that's what is stated in the manuals)

I would suspect the the P38 or whatever intel's next newest chipset is, that will also support DDR2 still.. will have 4gb stick support ?

X38/48 and P35 can run it with increased memory controller voltage, and NB voltage

And P45 the next chipset from Intel is only DDR3 currently (im sure vendors will do DDR2 version) and it will use ICH10 which has no PCI support, and will need tiered vendors to add a PCI chip onboard for the usage of a PCI device

considering that I see ddr2-800 1gb sticks as low as $15 and 2x1gb kits as low as $25, $88 is pretty expensive. Just a while ago there I saw a ddr2-667 2x1gb kit for $20.

here is a corsair DDR 667 for $14 after MIR
NCIX.com - Buy Corsair PC2-5300 1GB 1X1GB DDR2-667 200PIN SODIMM Memory - VS1GSDS667D2 In Canada.

few weeks ago they had a 2x1GB kit for $19.95. I don't remember whether it was 667 or 800, probably 667. they often have ddr 1gb sticks for ~$15

here is a crucial ddr2-800 2x1gb kit for $29.95 after MIR
NCIX.com - Buy Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-12 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit - BL2KIT12864AA804 In Canada.

I'm sure I've seen 2x1gb ddr2-800s on sale for ~$25 there before

these are in canadian dollars but it's pretty much in parity with usd right now. they also sell and ship to the usa. sometimes they sell cheaper to the states

Before MIR

i'll never consider MIR because they have a high probability of never making it through. (i've sent away about 30 MIR, i've only received 2 back in the last 2 years)

Plus that's NCIX, they will never get my money, even if thier prices are decent, they are a horrible online reseller imo.

I wish i could get newegg as it seems they are the only ones that actually will support thier products they sell to a point. Let alone listen to what some people have to say, MONTHs after the usually period of warranty is concerned to.

NCIX/TigerDirect have both told me to stick it up my ass after i just received thier defective products.

Until then, i am purchasing wholesale at a premium for something i can rely on. AND easily drive up and quick someones physical ass.

I've only ever sent out 3 MIRs in my life but they've all be honored. I never buy based on after MIR prices though. I consider it a bonus if I get it.

newegg doesn't ship to canada so ncix is pretty much unanimously the best online retailer up here. plus, i'm within driving distance of their retail stores and their retail staff are always helpful. ncix staff are helpful on the forums and there is a large community that will bitch if there are rebate scams so they've always been honored in my experience.

tigerdirect is ok except their shipping rates are outrageous so i don't buy from them as they don't have a retail store near me. but $20 for 2x1gb DDR2-800 is a fucken steal if you get the rebate

Then it's in your favour no doubts, having someone to actually to speak with without playing phone tag. Or waiting for week old email to finally be answered...

The close to $500 dollars or better worth of junk i've got stored away in the back in it's orginal "new" box and pretty much new peices that "quit" that have been refused by ncix isn't going away from my mind anytime soon. 2 of which (a PSU and 1 Optical drive) was shipped back and instantly redirected back to me due to thier own reason which i can't even comprehend they wouldn't do anyting with.

Actually the best is receving a part that was DoA even, and emediately send it back with the orginal receipt, and then ship it back stating i never purchased it from them

now that's pretty screwed up right there. You should have heard the phone conversation i had about that. Which unfortunately didn't go anywhere.

It was like a episode of "crank yankers"

*sigh*
