Intellipoint replacement?
I hate hate hate intellipoint, among other things it automaticaly clicks on links when it is activate/background. If I shut it down everything work fine with the microsoft sidewinder mouse.
Do you know of any other software I can use in its place?

I have the same mouse, and don't have that problem. However, it has crapped Vista twice which I find humorous to say the least.

I hate this mouse. It's the only mouse ever that causes pain to my hand. The buttons are crap, the two on the side double click whenever they want, the mouse wheel is too hard, the shape is horrible and the software as I said earlier sometimes "clicks" on links on its own, unless I close it/kill it.
Money wasted even more than on the money I spent on the Strategic Commander years ago.
My gods I hate this mouse.
I remember reading somewhere about a piece of software replacing intellipoint, but don't remember any details.

Nope not one bit, I've owned in two variations of it. I go thru mice like Big Brown goes thru bitches.
Speaking of which.
Decent Deal on Razer DeathAdder @ Circuit City

I rather use stickykeys than any Razer mouse (or razer product).
But thanks for the suggestion.
Now, so I guess no info on that intellipoint?

I wondered if you would sniff this thread out. I use the Habu at work, and their shape is severely comfortable for extended use. That is why I bought two at that price incase one takes a dump.

Well that leaves you basically w/ a few options. What is your budget for a mouse? Seriously it shouldn't be hurting your hand that is a very bad sign. I would suggest you stop using the mouse ASAP.

nec is rt. if mouse is causing u pain, u need to do something about it or u could cause yourself permanent probs.
also, r u shure its not positional - placement/support of arm/wrist. many peeps got that so wrong.
i thought the link thing was a ie setting.

You can try out the MouseHook (freeware) which is a quite good replacement for the Intellipoint by Microsoft.
Here's the link for it:
Mousehook.de
Good luck!

You can set that on the mouse itself, why would you need it in the software?

being able to set dpi isnt going to fix your problems with intelli.. tho im still not clear on what they actaully are. my general exp with intelli has been very good. as good or better than logitech.
while i dont know were it is at, there used to be a hack for changing dpi... not that it will do u any good if your mouse doesnt support whatever settings u want.

Because you need to software to set the dpi setting for each button, or else you are stuck with the default configuration...

....
ok.
Let's see, when intellipoint is enabled and running (process), then I get random click on links when using any browser, whenever I pass the pointer over a link.
Also, the Control key is automaticaly used whenever it feels like it.
NO, it is not a keyboard problem, it is a intellipoint problem, one that has affected many users using it and it is a known issue for years apparently. I didn't know about it since I never before owned a microsoft mouse.
So, yes, not using intellipoint would make those two go away and it does when I don't let it run or kill the process. The problem of course is that that way I don't have a program for some other options that such a software is used for.

dpi setting for each button? bout the only thing a button does that affects dpi is change it. & that would be 1 button..
as far as your problems, i ahve never encounterd them & dont know anybody that has, not saying they dont exist, just that it sounds more like an incopatibilty/wrong user settings type thing.
do u use a ms keyboard? & if so do use the software for it or use os driver?
i still think that click thing might be in ie. while i dont get that with my da, the tooltip thing drives me nuts. u know how t oget rid of that? lol

mike2h, you don't even have a microsoft sidewinder. If you get a microsoft sidewinder and manage to change the settings for the dpi buttons without using the intellipoint software, let me know...
The keyboard has nothing to do with the problems I mentioned. They are known problems with the buggy intellipoint that goes back to 2004, if not earlier.
I don't use IE. But even when I try that it still does it. Also it does it with notepad etc. It's a freaking buggy intellipoint problem. Very annoying piece of software.

i dont have a sidewinder? how do u know that?i dont, but there is no way for u to know that. u know what they say about peeps that assume..
not sure wha tu are getting at.. u said - "Because you need to software to set the dpi setting for each button" i said -"dpi setting for each button? bout the only thing a button does that affects dpi is change it. & that would be 1 button.." what is wrong with what i said?
bty have u cjkd t osee if there is a firmware update?
if u knew that, according to you, there is a big problem going on with intellipoint why did you buy another ms mouse that requires its usage?
was just making what i thought was some useful comments & trying to learn more about your issues ( as you are jumping all over about what your probs are)so maybe i could help. mistake on my part.

Let me say (again) some things.
You mentioned that you have a razor mouse, thus the chances that you also have a microsoft sidewinder are..slim.
And I was right.
About the DPI thing, since you might not know, with the microsoft sidewinder mouse, you have only 3 options, with 3 different buttons on the mouse itself. You cannot change on any other DPI setting apart from the 3 set by the factory, or after you install intellipoint, with the software.
Thus, if you do not use intellipoint, you cannot change what each of those 3 buttons will change the DPI setting to.
So, I have NO idea what you are on about the 1 button. Perhaps the razor mouse can change the dpi setting from 100 to 5000 in 50dpi increments, I don't know, but the microsoft sidewinder does not work that way.
There is no firmware upgrade for the mouse. The software is buggy and has been in various versions for YEARS. As I said before, I didn't know the software had these problems. If I did I wouldn't have bought it. This is the first time I own a microsoft mouse. I have said all the above before in my earlier posts, read them again if you wish.

1st i have 4 comps + laptop. all need mice... duh.
u really dont pay attention to what you post or waht i said.. yet again U SAID - 'DPI SETTING FOR EACH BUTTON' WHAT EXACTLY DOES THAT MEAN? dpi is a funtion of the mouse sensor, has nothing to do with buttons, unless you have an assigned button that changes dpi on the fly wich you say that mouse is incapable of. you also said intellipoint has had these problems for years though i & nobody i know knows about them - not saying there hasnt been bugs just dont know about your specific recurring probs. you also complain about the mouse being very uncomfotable. you also complain about dpi setting, & while it may no longer work i told you there was a workaround out there.
so you have 1 ergonomic issue & several probs relating to software dpi settings being needed, but current driver doesnt work becuase of these other issues of yours. since even you admit that theses probs of your are not in every set, have you considered using an older set? if you have, & every intelli set has issues on your comp, then i would say you have a compatibilty issue on your end.
of course your mouse just could be buggered.
anyway, for me, not much point in continuing this silly discussion. gl.

The mouse has three buttons for three specific DPI settings. You can change what they are w/ Intellipoint.
