I'm actually surprised by the price. A buck a Gig is rather reasonable.

Agreed. When the WD640AAKS performs almost equally at a fraction of the price per GB.

No other drive on the market can touch a 10krpm raptors performance.

Its a premium price to pay for the best mechanical drive on the market, and at that its not that expensive at about ~$1/GB

Its still a hell of alot cheaper than SSDs.

I exclusively use Western Digital... I have 8 Drives from them, and I have had non die in 2 years....with constant rebooting and whatnot from overclocking... no a single hiccup from them.

EDIT: Thats 4 150GB Raptors, 4 500GB Caviars.

I love the fact that they are 2.5" drives. I wonder what they sound like with and without that 2.5 to 3.5" converter package. Densities are getting so high that my old dream of 2.5" drives for desktops has a chance to happen at last. The competition in that class can't be nearly as cutthroat as in the regular desktop segment.

Oh and it might be best to mention here that the position of the SATA data and power connectors on this drive does not line up with regular 3.5" drive connectors. Important for those that might dream of putting one in some kind of docking station for instance. One can probably expect some kind of a proprietary hotswap station from WD.

Western Digital's VelociRaptor VR150 hard drive - The Tech Report - Page 4

Sure it is faster, but not enough to justify the price IMO. In real world performance it barely is any better than either of the 320GB/platter 640mb drives out there. It is faster at transferring files around in windows. But for games and load times, the different is negligible.

I'd love a set but they are asking about $330.00 in Canada, if they were priced at the same as the 150GB raptors I would probably go for it.

Yup, bought it two weeks ago on special promo - it's installed as of last night (well, this morning...). Haven't powered the system yet though, just taking a break. I was going to buy the 150G Raptor until I saw that model...

I was surprised by the form factor when I saw it announced several days ago - I think the VelociRaptor is a uniquely creative combination of high end engineering and flair - even the name is cool. I bet it sells like a bat out of...

Only 110 w/ tax for you.

Hopefully not against my better judgment I ordered one.

BTW, any interested in a refurbed 150GB raptor for dirt cheap?

Something seriously wrong with x38/x48 they dont clock 45nm quads worth a damn.

I have a couple new X3350's comin to me and I will see how they do.

PangingJr has a spectacular aura aboutPangingJr has a spectacular aura aboutPangingJr has a spectacular aura about

have seen somewhere, an X3360 (Q9550) @ 400 FSB 3.4GHz and only 1.1000V and i think that's an amazing CPU chip.

lol, only if Intel would give the exact same overclockability chip on (every) retail processors.
(if it is even possible to have the exact same in all the package building process).
