Apparently you cant drive them on the sidewalk though, and your screwed if you nearly hit a nun pushing a baby carriage too, even if she shouts obscenties at you...such is life. Still fun to drive though, and if I can find a parking spot I just put a bike lock on it and secure it to a tree.

Speedy little thing. Would look cool with extra fat tires and some rear spoilers.

You know you wanted a Sport. Yours looks more like a GTI rather than a 3L TDI.

if those specs are real, then damn is that impressive. 180hp, 0-60 in 5.0, and STILL get 92mpg? unfortunately, ive gotta call BS on that one.
if it is true... hell ill figure out some way to drop 1500lbs from my vette and drop that little thing in there instead.

I gotta say, a 180hp engine that can manage almost 100 miles to the gallon and accelerate like that with such a high top speed? I didn't even think it was possible.
You sure the stats are right Jeff? Don't mean to sound like im crapping on the thread here, im an engine fanatic but I tend to focus more on bikes as you know......

according to what ive found...
The Lupo 3L was a special-edition made with the intent of being the world's first car in series production consuming as little as 3 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres (78 miles per US gallon or 94 miles per Imperial gallon). To achieve this the 3L was significantly changed from the standard Lupo to include: now, being a gutless little 3 cylinder car, that 92mpg doesnt seem so far fetched. the 0-60 and 140mph top end on the other hand...
and more.
Fuel Economy: 79 mpg
Top Speed: 102 mph
0-60 mph: 14.5 seconds
Horsepower: 61
Drag Coefficient: .29
Curb Weight: 1,828 lbs
Seating Capacity: 4 adults
Classification: Sub-Compact
Powertrain: 1.2L L3 turbodiesel
sorry jeff, but those specs you posted just screamed BS so i had to verify it my self.

it goes like a bat out of hell, I had it to Cambridge and Ely yesterday and it started blowing out smoke from the exhaust, I had it towed to the dealer and he is very angry with me now for some reason, it made a terribly clattering noise before I pulled it over to the curb in Prickwillow. I am terribly disappointed really, the chap at the dealership said it is well within the thirty day window and has given me a much tamer Polo to drive for now. I was so disgusted I pulled off the custom shift knob in anger. I recall the smell was horrific as well. I dont think it is anything special, when they raised the hood at the dealership it looked like something burned on the engine and the lad at the desk said it didnt have any oil in it for reason or it didnt appear to. I am so bummed right now.
Honestly though, it isnt what he said it was supposed to be either. I am beginning to think this was a project car for one of the mechanics at the garage where I bought it. I dont know a damn thing about cars and I didnt know what to tell the guy, but it really made a bang when I opened it up on the A11 and just got worse driving it through town, my temperature gauge even stopped working. I can still hear it going TAK TAK TAK CHU CHUH CHUH...TAK TAK TAK TAK.....etc...
I think I killed it, oil was sprayed everywhere under the hood or something like it was smoking on the heat shield on the firewall.
A thousand pounds down the drain and I am afraid it will end up at the crusher like the Honda I wrecked last year...
why does this always happen to me?
The manager says he wont trust me with another car till they find out what happened to this one but I think I put it into the wrong gear because that is when the whole problem started to get worse.
I can still smell it even now.
I am soooo bummed, I thought I had a real gem. I didnt even get the back seats put back in yet or get the stereo installed, this is a disaster...
I should have got the old Merc and just did the manored gentry things.
first the Audi, then the Mercedes, then the Honda and now the VW.
Maybe I should just ride my bike for a few weeks till this gets sorted and stay off the dual carriageways.
edit: burned clutch, no oil, some kind of manifold gasket, seals and valve train problem, and something with the super charger or turbo too, its a goner I think. I have to go back to the dealer in the morning discuss terms with him and talk to the lad that sold it to me, he put it together and signed it off as good, they even did an "MOT" on it and paid the road tax too. the aircleaner or air ram or soemthing was clogged with oil or something too. I am just sick now and I am going to lay down...
if anyone wants it they tow it away for all I care...I have killed another car I think.

probably the head gasket, which would explain the lack of oil. burning up a clutch though in that short of time... that takes some real doing unless it was bad when they sold it..
*wait a sec, a clutch? everything i read on this car said it was a clutchless 5 speed.

what ever it is in the transmission I suppose, it didnt even have a carpet on in the inside but it defiinitely had a stick and pedal and brake and accelerater. I am afraid it is a horribly cobbled affair from the beginning. My neighbor and and a lovely polish lady as well says her husband can run the vin number at the AA website and determine just what this car is supposed to have and not have under the hood, but I feel like a rube now. I am not going to pay a thousand pounds a month for the next year on a car that doesnt run. I noticed right away it was a racing car with a throaty growl and lots of speed right out of the lot, but I havent even put 2 hundred miles on it and I blew it up because I didnt know what i was doing to the engine or the car. My nieghbor who owns and drives several cars said that lack of oil would account for most of my problems right away but that I should have noticed it the first day. I bloody well know I am naive about cars but the lads at the dealership offered me a customized audi TT or this car and I think I should have got the TT even though it was quite a bit more expensive. The TT looked nicer but it was quite a bit slower than the Lupo.
I might as well get a wobbly old mini cooper, which they had in abundance at the lot for 5 thousand quid and in good running order.
I just wish I had one of you car smart people with me when I go to the car lot again. I might go to Kings Lynn and see if I can get a Suburu WRX that has a rebuilt engine if this doesnt turn out.
If I give one of you guys the VIN number can you run it and tell me what it supposed to have under the hood? It might help because right now I really just want to arse the whole thing.

Jeff you have got to be kidding me man. An Audi TT puts out over 225hp. the lupo is like 65hp. who is this dealer ? del boy motors or something?
If I had bought a car with no oil in it and the dealer said "I don't think ill trust you with another car". I would be on the news right now being bundled into a cop car with the dealer pinned to his dealership sign with a wrench shoved up his arse.
Oh yeah, if I didnt say it before, welcome to the wonderful world of english car dealers. bunch of conmen the lot of them.

Thanx Zardon, but the TT had really nice alloy wheels and paint and a decent stereo system but the dealer told me it was a flash car, and I would appreciate something a great deal faster. What do I know, I have been renting cars for over four years and I really fell in love with the AUDI A4 and A6 and even the old Mercedes but my neighbor said that Gordon Brown is going to pass a tax on gas guzzlers so I should get something smaller and more fun. The mini cooper was really fun to drive and I didnt take the TT out for a spin, but the Polo and Golf were very pretty with special tail lights and lovely interiors that were really pimped out. It really made up for the age of the cars too. I went to 5 way motors in Mildenhall and they pointed me to the used cars at the VW dealership. I even brought one of my American tuner friends with me and he approved of everything he saw on the lot, I even chose not to get anything with nitrous too because he said that it burns the engine up. What bothers me is that the car hads oil in it when we checked it, even the though the dip stick was low. The oil all over the engine and the front of the told me that something blew up under the hood. My argument is that the car isnt what they said it was and I am going to run the VIN and see if maybe it was over engineered rather than over driven. Either way, I am the butt of many jokes now because I have to get a ride to work all next week unless they let me have the Polo for another week from Mildenhire cars on their account, as for me if they gave it an MOT then it should have ran just fine for that, but I am beginning to think something is amiss. My friend told me that there should be a V5 document either in the car or they have to give it to me saying exactly how this car began life in 1999. What pissed me off is that I ordered a head liner, seat covers, and interior carpet for this car as well as the radio too. And even worse, there are other LUPO cars on the lot too in various states of repair and I am not about to buy one of them after this. I | |
