Driverheaven - Driver Cleaner 1.3.1
Ok guys,
Here is another release of Driver Cleaner. I made a small revision, because i found a small bug and now i think all the bugs are out of the program. Below you find a list of the things that are changed since 1.3:
Improved:
- Installer
- Help file
Fixed:
- Small bug in the code
IMPORTANT: uninstall the older version first before you install this version.
It is for nVidia and ATI drivers. It will remove anything that is left by the drivers after uninstall.
You can download the new version here.

These are the steps i always recommend:
1. Unplug nic card or modem from net or disconnect
2. Remove nvidia from add/remove programs
3. Reboot into safe mode (F8 during boot up)
4. On reboot into safe mode winXP SP1 will auto detect and install drivers. Just let it do its thing. If you can cancel out of the auto install hardware wizard then skip the rest and run Driver Cleaner! If you can NOT cancel out of auto detect wizard then...
5. Navigate to device mgr->display adapters->highlight nVidia and click uninstall or remove but don't reboot
6. Run Driver Cleaner
7. Empty recycle bin and reboot
8. Install the new drivers
Hope it helps.

Final Steps
Sorry if this is a daft question but the reboot at stage 7, should it be a reboot into safe mode?
Also At stage 8 Windows XP SP1 detects and installs drivers automatically, is it OK to install over these as I can't cancell out of the install.
Thanks,
Jim

Driver Cleaner is a great util and it works great. The only flaw I have found in it is that in the reg under local_system/system/control set002/services .. I does not delete the smartgat, ATI Hotkey Poller and ati2mtag keys... I have checked everywhere else in the reg for leftover keys, but have only found these. I have had this problems with numerous driver sets and all version of DH cleaner.. Can u guys check if u have the same leftover keys too?

@Jim_Smith at point 7 it is to the normal windows. For that installing are there any ati files or directories left? because it should only start the install but shouldn't install anything.
@Chilljf that is possible that they are left they are only removed from controlset001 and 003, because i didn't thought that there would be a 002 at least by people i talked to they don't have it. I will fix this in my next release. Thanx for telling.

Thanks Spike.
There doesn't appear to be any ATI files/folders left. I suspect that Windows XP SP1 is loading the files from some .cab files lurking on the system. I'll try to rename them in the near future. I only have a problem with 3D games (and suspect its actually the card that has a physical problem - Dell's Radeon 9700TX seems to be a problematic card) and I have to use the machine for some work over the weekend (shock horror!) so I'll let you know how I get on.
Oh, and thanks for taking the trouble to produce and maintain the utility!
Jim

Im not sure if u wanna include this in your next version of DC.. but when I install new drivers, I also delete the old registry keys for my monitor drivers. This is located under local_machine\system\controlset001\enum\display ... They are also located under controlset002 & 003. I have never had a problem not deleting these keys with new video drivers but I just hate it when I have 20 keys for the same monitor driver, it makes a mess. Windows Reg makes the Display Folder read-only so u will have to right click on it and goto permission to check full control in order to delete the keys. You will have to do this is for all the controlsets001..002 & 003 if u wish to delete the keys

Thanks again Spike for the wonderful utility ! I was just wondering if a person using the cleaner on Nvidia 30.xx drivers also needs to use the Detonator 30.xx to 40.xx fix when uprading to the 40.xx drivers ?
Also if there are any Combat Flight Simulator 2 and 3 fans here come on over to www.club1percent.com and check us out. We have a pretty good community of mostly on-line flight simmers over there. Several are playing IL Sturmovic Forgotten Battles as well.

You don't need that 30.xx to 40.xx fix. That fix was because there were files left and my program removes those also. So when you use my program you can just install drivers a normal way. Just follow the steps in the readme or help file.

It will work with an AIW also you only need to uninstall the display drivers and control panel.
