winsxs folder in c:\Windows
OKay so this is quite a shock to me
it seems that windows vista has this folder in c:\windows\winsxs ... it contains 49,731 files... 13,746 folders for a grand total of 9.96gigs
this totals HALF my hard drive's amount of files and folders ... seems like a giant waste.
Anyone know the use of this folder (it seems to contain a copy of every single patch I've installed) and whether or not it can be cleaned up?

After 2 years of updating Vista, do u guys think it'll take up sometime like 70 gigs??? I can't wait to find out lol...

in XP i used to use upto 35GB (starting from around 10GB or so when hard drive's free space were hard to find back then) for system drives,
but now for Vista i begin to use around 40-80GB for system partitions. i don't care about compressing system files by myself any more since a larger drives are now available at low cost.
btw, i couldn't see the topic name. lol.

those KB's are Kilobytes man. not windows patches.
I'm showing you how big (in Kilobytes) my windows folder is. and its contents.
anyways this has gotten pointless... I can't wait for someone to figure out what's safe to remove and what's not. The size and amount of files in that folder pisses me off.
