why no nvidia card? those 3870s are no longer the best value for money. id get a 8800 series card for the same price, faster and better drivers.

Overall, a nice system. The Phenom 9750 is a B3 stepping, so the TLB bug is fixed.

But why go for an AMD system instead of an Intel setup? But at the time, AMD provide processors that are not as energy efficient an as powerful as Intel's Core2Quad Penryn processors, also the AMD solution are not OC friendly. With the new Penryn cpu's you could easy hit the 4+ ghz barrier. But in the end, the Phenom 9750 is fast enough for most games (also applications), since most games are bound by the gpu instead of the cpu and the Phenom got the SSE4a which is great for super fast video encoding. (A good alternative would be: an Intel P35 based motherboard combined with a C2Q Q6600 G0 stepping 95W).

As for the videocard, the HD3870 is good, but nVidia's Geforce 9600gt performs as good as the HD3870 at a lower price. But then again, the Diamond Viper HD3870 got VIVO which is great for a HTPC/Media Center setup, for recording TV shows/ timesharing etc.

By the way, no soundcard?

Nice setup Robert; let us know how everything works. Did you already get the sound card or are you using the onboard sound?

You changed a lot of stuff from what was picked out earlier.

Some changes could be made, but hey, it's your system. Good luck with it.

Just glad you built it yourself.

dump the diamond card and go with this

Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100225L Radeon HD 3870 512MB 256-bit GDDR4 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics

allows you to get 4 of them and sapphire support i think is a bit better

since you are getting AMD, its pretty obvious that you arent going to do any OCing so theres no need for big cooling systems, best go wiith expandability for you.

That setup will Crossfire out the wazoo if you want to down the road - got you a very flexible mainboard there - full of features!

You might want to consider the 640G Western Digital hard drive just released for 25% more space and better speed overall. It should be about $20.00 more. I just ordered one last night actually for my new machine - and I've been shopping drives carefully for myself for a long time now...

i dunno how fast the 7200.11s are now with the firmware update........

but knowing how Judas has over 600MB/s with his 6 drives i think its still better than that.....

will do more research, looks interesting

My .11 was already fixed but it's hard to know which ones have the problem or not.

Robert if you're not planning on overclocking I wouldn't waste the extra money on the ram. I would spend it on a x2.

3870X2?

you do know that its generally weaker than 2 3870s in crossfire mainly because the X2 uses GDDR3 vs GDDR4 in the 3870s

hes got 4 slots so theres nothing to worry about or need

if you failed preschool and couldnt grasp the concept that the square peg goes in the square hole and the round peg goes in the round hole and still dont....

then building a computer isnt for you..... but im pretty sure you are intelligent enough to do it...... or else you probably would never have known how to use a computer....

i say its worse now....

saving money and "fast" dont mix

hell.... AMD and fast dont mix... yet

but AMD and cheap do....

your last motherboard was better

and your last RAM was ALOT better

the other sapphire 3870 has no fan issues like most others with stock cooling. stays cooler, doubt it but it may be a similar heatsink as the Atomic card

do yourself a favor and switch back...

you need vista ultimate x64 not x86 also

Looks like a danged nice AMD system. I'd only change two things if it was mine. I'd go with a Corsair 620HX...but that's just personal preference, as there is nothing at all wrong with the PSU you have listed.

The other thing I would do is go with the 64-bit version of Vista. I just added that to my multi-boot system, and it's running very nice, with no compatability issues at all. Especially after I turned off some of the "Windows for Dummys" options.

I especially like the case...If I hadn't just recently upgraded to the CM 690, I would have have jumped on the RC 590 in a heartbeat. With my Koolance Exos sitting on top of the case (I don't have room to put it anyplace else), I lose the USB connections that are up there on the 690. With the 590 that wouldn't have happened, and I would have still had all of the other nice features of the 690 internally.
