Great Value: Metal Gear Solid Essentials
I just bought Metal Gear Solid Essentials pack, its a package of the MGS trilogy of games from the PS1 and PS2. For a cool $30 you get
MGS
MGS 2 Substance
MGS 3 Subsistence
The few things missing is that MGS is not the Integral version with the V.R. missions, and Subsistence doesn't have its extra discs. But it pretty much gives you the meat and potatoes of the game and to relive it. The cool thing about is that the original game is produced on 2 black PS1 CDs. This package does mean you can't play it on a 40GB PS3 and might have issues on the 80GB (60GB with dual shock 3 for me). If you haven't played one or two or any of the games, these are a must! Especially if you played Twin Snakes on the gamecube, sick of the stupid music and framerate issues. In addition, it hypes you up for MGS4, and MGS nuts like me can analyze the dialogue and scenes one more time like the addict I am.
Great value!

it works on every PS model except the 40GB. The 80GB might have some minor issues with backwards compatability being software based, otherwise its all good. The system won't reset when swapping discs for PS1.
Some of the dialogue was really slowed down for Twin Snakes, if you want less of the nonesense play MGS1. The music is better too.

after going back to play mgs2, the graphics still floor me. The difference btw mgs 1 and 2 is mind boggling because you can actually see facial expressions and stuff isn't flat textures. MGS3's CQC system makes MGS2's feel like a joke though, but the 30fps really hurts the game to me.

im playings mgs1, the tone of the game is just still amazing. its so dark and creepy at some points. the gamecube looked amazing with this game, but the controls and music just can't be emulated properly there.

well the controller is less symetrical, it feels a lot weirder and running and shooting becomes a pain sometimes. But definitely seeing the huge jump in detail makes a diff to story telling. The game is a lot less challenging with the new manoveurs in Twin Snakes, and dialogue is slowed down. The music definitely cannot compare with the original, but its decent. The fight scenes are way better in Twin Snakes with all the crazy effects. Its a good remake but I just find the theme better and more immersive in the original, the dark feeling of going up the comm tower on the PS One couldn't be emulated.
many sites have played through MGS4 and are giving it high praise, that it really is the system seller. Could it be PS3's Halo finally?

lets hope so, im waiting for that one game to make me spend the cash for a ps3....its not a matter of if, its a matter when (as i always get all consoles of the "generation") and im hoping MGS4 is the when
the ps3 to date has been underwhelming imo, not worth the large price tag....yet

oh i agree... only game I have fun with is CoD4, which is on 360 and PC. I only bought it because the 60GB is impossible to find now. I have no issues using my old games which I play mostly right now.

a few sites had previews, such as gamespy and IGN. Gamespy said the begining of the game is difficult for newbies. IGN also said some aliasing is needed. Surprisingly the controls are not confusing though.
