Obviously AMD got too excited with their new driver release and released it a week too early. You can tell by the release dates. (sarcasm)
They never get anything right.

What, no comments about how this is AMDs fault????? Actually, they hsd nothing to do with it and if you must know, the premature hotfix release was entirely my fault.
The hotfix will return return in the very near future.

Maybe its too much to ask, but the reason it was pulled is so serious that those who got it and installed it yesterday should delete it and go back to Ofiicial 8.3 or is it OK to have it installed until its released once again?
Thanks!

The original will not cause any damage if that's what you are asking, but results will vary as it is not the final version.
But there is no benefit to continue using the premature hotfix. As with any software update some will claim improvments and others will claim disaster. (Kinda like the reputation that Vista has endured :-)
So I recommend that the orignial version simply not be used. The hotfix will be re-released soon.

Thanks for the honest and clear response! As for Vista, my only complain about it is that its slower than XP, and i mean.. it cost me more than my 4GB of RAM did...
Also you might (ok you do) know about ATis performance in DX10 is not on par with DX9 performance (not even close to it honestly ) so for people like me going to Vista gave me nothing in return, except for slightly slower gaming performance. But that will change (i hope) when ATi gets their DX10 performance up so that i can actaully use it in my games

What can I say. DX10 and any game that uses DX10 as well as DX10 code paths inthe graphics drivers are still relatively new in the world. DX10 does not have the years of performance tweaking experience behind it that is true for DX9. Gaming experience in Vista will improve with age.
My comment about Vista was based on many months of usage as compared against previous XP experince. Overall Vista has proven more stable than XP (IMHO). But XP was already a very very stable environment so it takes months to even notice the difference.

are there any specifics about what the problem with the original 8.3 is? something a little more certain than "Intermittent stuttering issues seen when running various 3D application"?

Its to do with certain cards not using their full 3D clock in games or apps all the time, causing a drop in performance or stuttering.

Had an issue i didn't have a week ago. when playing the witcher certain ground textures are not rendered and can be seen through. looks to mainly be steps and curbstone looking area but didnt stay in game long. like i said, i played for a while like a week ago with standard 8.3 and no troubles, the only thin i changed is ATI driver to the newest hotfix. I did play quite alot of World in Conflict and all looked well. just started WIC conflict up again and all looks well. If i get around to reinstalling the reg 8.3 i'll post back

Well the GPU dropping to 2d mode is gone. But no big difference in the FPS in games like UT3, etc. And I have experienced that the computer locks up completely, didn't do that with Cat 8.3 but hopefully they will fix that with cat 8.4 but the most important thing is getting better FPS tbh.
