Maximus Formula / SE Yorkfield Support
I've been reading around on other sources about the support for this series w/ different bios versions. It appears 0907 doesn't support it but it does support Wolfdale. However, there is a new bios 1004 which is rumored to add support for Yorkfield. However, it's been hard to get, not even an official beta bios from Asus. It appears 1004 maybe ready for prime time since it is now appearing on Asus's FTP.
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/so...ximus_Formula/
I find it rather strange why Asus is waiting till the last minute to add support for these processors. Has anyone heard any other information if this will be the bios that officially supports the cheaper Yorkfields?
The reason I need to know is I have a X3350 arriving Wednesday, and would hope they would have some thing out that would add support for the Q9450.

the BIOS may already be able to detect the CPU correctly (this includes its model number, speed, stepping and features).
a new update version of Micro codes (Patch ID/Microcode Revision) might be updated later.
motherboard makers just don't give full detail on what's added/changed in each BIOS revision,
could be just the CPU support information has not officially updated yet.
i'd keep an old CPU in case system cannot boot and need to reinstall the old CPU to update BIOS.

1004 is on their site (web page as official latest beta) now so I might as well give it a go & cross my fingers. I doubt they'll be releasing an update to that any time soon.

by now, the Yorkfields QX9770, Q9550/9450/9300 have already been tested on the board,
and one of the BIOS (on each X38 and P35 based board) has been using to test these Yorkfields.
i believe you are right about the BIOS version 1004 on the Asus server.
the Xeon's CPU family/number might not be detected by BIOS correctly, the Xeon CPU might be a Q9450 for now.
but it shouldn't be a problem to use the CPU on the board.

Yup figures...went to bed a little early last night. I get up to use the bathroom, decide to check my e-mail. What do I find? "Please insert media for boot" or something to that effect. I reboot goes to load windows, and my raptor is making this very quiet klaxon sound. Hmm...not good power down all the way. Reboots to the point where windows loads...I get another error message from Vista saying the winload file is hosed. So I try rebooting one more time..this time I get the "err" "err" "err" sound. It appears the controller on the raptor is whacked. Just annoying since now I'll have to reload, and I have all my very important info backed up but annoying since I'll be losing some minor info that will be hard to replace.

1004 does indeed support the x3350. Also the packing date on the processor is 03/13/08!
