well at least 7.10 had a big gl improvement, especially in ETQW

Keep a copy of atioglxx.dll 7.10 (or 7.11) and put it into the folder of borked applications if necessary.
I noticed also that OpenGL performance increased about 30% compared to CAT 5.11 drivers that came with my X1800XL at the time.
Next issue:
"Hellgate London Demo x86 DX9" (i've already updated DX9 to March 2008)
Characters OK (Granny 3D middleware)
But the terrain vanishes in outdoor levels (Umbra middleware)
Umbra Software Ltd. reads:
"The compelling worlds of titles like ... Hellgate: London rely on Umbra™ visibility optimization. Working in the shadows, unseen, Umbra cuts development time and delivers faster gameplay frame rates."
Sorry, doesn't look too compelling to me and obviously it boosts the framerate if there is no geometry
Is there any official dpvs.dll version different from 8.2.23.0 (540672 bytes)?

that atioglxx.dll worked
nice workaround, get the ETQW improvements AND have the old gl apps work without breaking

Just thought that I would add my comments to the thread. I had a terrible time getting the 8.3's to install, most probably because of the latest version of Spybot Search and Destroy and its new resident. I had to actually uninstall Sypbot, install the CAT suite, and then re-install Spybot. Finally was able to get the installation completed.
While I was scratching my head and installing things right and left, I decided to try the option of running just the driver and dumping the CCC program. I run three games, FS9, FSX, and a WWI shooter called Wings of War. The latter is an OpenGL application so those issues seem to be there. I can testify at this point that dumping the CCC and using ATI Tray Tools seems to be the way to go with both FS9 and FSX. The display looks fine and there seems to be a slight but noticable increase in FPS in both applications.
Just for what it's worth.

Extract them into the folder where the "broken" application's executable is.

visually ingame is okay but I hear sound stuttering and gameplay frequently crashes to desktop (sending error to Microsoft) due to extreme stuttering (excessive hdd shuffling)
those artifacted mpegs play at ~0.5 fps
long story short Crysis demo is unplayable while Far Cry runs smooth as warm honey in the same resolution and maxed out settings.

Yeah, looks like a movie made in 1900 with a crank lever camera.
I tried the CPU benchmark, where explosions look like a piece of lemoncake, which must be Catalyst bug (they couldn't have overlooked that).
And the GPU benchmark, where rocks and bushes randomly popup in the scenery.
Also \game\config\gpu\amd.txt contains false info:
"0x1002, 0x7109, 2 // Radeon X1800 CrossFire Edition" which is actually X1800XL

All I can say (again) my old X1300Pro played the demo including movies smoothly - it's just my new HD3850 playing up on the Crysis demo. Possibly a driver issue, I agree.

no worries, mate, but a patch should have been made available to take care of those newer cards. You can really not hope for someone to buy the full game when the demo runs like a three-legged horse.
It's a bit of shooting in your own, ahem, leg
just my thoughts..
