??? ATI Mobility Radeon HD2700 driver for Vista

Hi =)

I just bought the Fujitsu-Siemens AMILLO Xi2550-26P with the HD2700 graphic card, 2048Mb RAM and 2.5GHz Core Duo CPU. I have read in different forums that the HD2700 is supposed to be a high performance graphic card. But I have to say, so far I am very disappointed. I installed Call Of Duty 4 and began with the highest resolution (1920x1200) and texture quality. It was totally unplayable. I lowered it until the game was playable again and then I was down to 800x600 and low texture quality. Okey it’s a new game but I thought the HD2700 would handle it better than that.
After that I tried Battlefield 1942 which is a 6 years old game. Not even this game was playable with the highest resolution (1600x1200) and texture quality. Come on?

After this most disappointing results I compared my AMILLO Xi2550 with my friends Dell XPS M1530 with the NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600 GT, 2Ghz Core Duo CPU and 2048Mb RAM. Its almost the same hardware spec but I don’t know the performance difference between 8600GT and HD2700. Anyway, in Call Of Duty 4 we tried to run on his LCD screens highest resolution 1440x900 and highest Texture quality. The game ran perfectly smooth with no problems. Off course the result was the same in Battlefield 1942.
I thought his and mine Notebook would handle the same games with almost the same results.

After this most surprising result I thought of trying to update the Graphic driver. The Big problem is that there is no Radeon HD2700 driver on ATI homepage. My Question is if I can use a Mobility Modded HD2600 driver until they release the HD2700 driver? I’ve heard that these cards are almost identical. But I can be mistaking.
Right now I am using a driver called ATI Mobility Radeon Family Driver HD 2400/2700 ver 8.442 that Fujitsu-Siemens supplied. I think (and hope) this driver is the cause to my graphic problems.

I appreciate any thoughts and ides you might have =)

Best Regards
Martin
