URGENT:broke my pci express graphics clip!! HELP!!
GUYS I'm scared if I'm screwed. I was installing a new cooler, had to remove the 8800 to clean off dust. It was in a weird position I was pulling at it and bam it came off and so did the graphics port clip. I put the card back in now it makes an alarm as if it is not installed properly. WTF do I do? Did I just screw my motherboard over?!!?! I do have crossfire but the second port is not x16 I believe.
In the meantime I will keep googling!

The clip? you mean that little plastic thing?
You should be able to clip that back on to the slot if it's in one piece, my topmost slot is missing the little plastic thing as well but i'm not having a problem.
Make sure the card is VERY Securely screwed in at the back and that could act as a temporary fix. Other than that you might have knackered the board.

My friend says it shouldnt matter, my second slot is fine but I don't care for it its only x2. Why am I getting this alarm? Screwing it in does nothing. Should I hold the card down or could that spark and burn it out if I move it. Also, the card looks unharmed right?

Providing you have not damaged the main points on the slot it should still work fine. That is only in place to keep it securely installed.I have done that in the past and fell lucky.
I don't know about your card but previously but a G/C will still work in 2d mode without the power plug installed. And a notice will show on windows start up.

im pretty sure that the beeping is standard for not having the GPU plugged in properly, at least that's what happen to me on a 9800pro nforce2 setup when i forgot to plug in the GPU power

it depends on the system/card conditions....
some cards will run 2d mode just fine.. some make a shriek if it isn't plugged in....

Yeah don't worry my 8800 shrieks at me if I forget the power plug, don't worry done it a few times. As for the clip I wouldnt worry to much, wouldnt use any slot but the blue one and as long as it's secure it'll be fine.

Everything is fine, just this cooler is a bitch to install. I vacuamed the dust. It looks worst in the pics. I have a front air filter but the panels at the back are open. My room gets dusty too quick its so annowing.

That clip breaking off is fine..... it wont have any effect, its mainly there to secure the card if it has a heavy cooler and keep it securely in the slot otherwise.
You didnt break anything too serious.

See that's the problem right there, involving drugs. Drugs don't know how to build computers, but the liquor does.
Never once had a bad computer situation when liquor was involved. Even got a system assembled from boxes in reasonable time and it POST'ed on the first push of the power button and worked flawlessly.

I installed my X850 pro on my old comp drunk, i didn't know why there was an extra connector, but it was for PCI express which I didn't use back then. Card gave me decent year of performance too!
