Wow that's a heck of a lot of bug fixes, performance improvements & new features...worth a shot I suppose.

#X$!&£X.X!
That's all I can say.
This completely screwed everything up. My 3DMark06 score went from 11000 down to 8000..... everything is sluggish, nothing works as it should.
Tried to install 8.2 again and now CCC crashes everytime I try to start it.
I'm NOT happy.

I cannot fucking believe these 8.3s will not install in a 3850 AGP. "Device not recognized". ATI you never cease to amaze me.

Does anyone have a link to the full 8.2 standard suite for XP Pro/Home? CCC worked fine before I tried 8.3 but now I've tried to uninstall and reinstall the three 8.2-packages with driver, ccc and wdm and ccc just crashes.
This is kinda sad.. here I have hardware that should be perfect with these drivers and it just doesn't work..
Well, even without getting into CCC to change settings I'm back to 11500 3DMark06 with 8.2
8.3 stinks.

Yes, but how will it help recognize my video card? And why do the drivers from Sapphire work?

AGP versions from HD2600 up, are not officially supported by ATI! It´s up to the 3rd party makers, to put on their sites the drivers with the updated .inf files so that the card is recognized! if you want copy the inf information from previous working drivers, and place it on the on the 8.3, that should do the trick!

Any idea what might cause this MAJOR drop in performance with 8.3? I've now tried it three times, with full cleanups between every installation, and I get the same result.. and I get back to normal with 8.2 again, every time.
In some aspects when I run the benchmark I can see the stuttering and FPS down to 5, something that never even happened with my old X850 in 3Dmark06. I noticed that the CPU score drops with 35% when I have 8.3 installed compared to 8.2 so it seems there is some major bug in these drivers that eats up CPU performance..

It doesn't. I even tried installing manually right from the unwrapped 8.3 and still have the old version. This was after a thorough deinstall.

I got a BSOD after the install, so decided to do a clean install as my system was in need of a fresh XP install anyway.
Same thing !
Reinstalled the OS again (3rd time) and went back to the older 8.2s. Everything works fine (well as fine as ive had).
I have had a terrible year with ATI cards tbh, with games not working, stability issues, and now even the drivers don't work right. so i have just ordered a 8800 GTS, ive had enough
ATI, you really need to get your act together, ever since AMD took over the whole thing is going down the pan.

Noticed no problem installing 8.3 over 8.2 on XP here with a 3870. I threw in XP as a secondary installation a couple of days ago. I'll test some games and see if anything odd comes up. Edit: nope, no problems.

My X1950PRO AGP has run fine since Catalyst 7.10.
I really don't know what to say about your issues with anything related to 7.10 or newer.
I seriously recommend running a cab.cleaner in driver cleaner pro followed by the removal of any driver components left over by the official un-install. Un-installing a driver doesn't mean the driver removes all the files...some get left behind, get mixed up when you install a new driver and causes conflict between the two.
1) use the ati un-installer tool provided in "add/remove programs".
2) boot into safe mode.
3) 'right-click' on "my computer" and select "manage".
4) un-install any display drivers you see.
5) launch driver cleaner pro 1.5.
6) run an "sp2.cab" & "driver.cab" clean (It will take up to 5 minutes).
7) select any "ati" options in the list and click on "start".
8) reboot in to normal windows mode
9) install the latest ati driver (NO CCC - seriously...its the biggest piece of c*** ever), slows down your boot-up time, consumes more unnecessary processes.
10) reboot when prompted
11) install "ati tray tools" configuring the installation to suit your graphic card
12) select "tools and options" followed by "smartgart" and disable "fast writes". being an AGP system it aint supported. reboot.
13) enjoy

Found this for those who are having problems. Fixed mine with the 8.3s. I would say thanks to ATI, but find it hard when this wasn't even announced. Oh wait, I just did .

My new HIS 3850 shows two problems:
1) Crysis demo runs like a slide show (1440 mode) - videos (.sfd) as well, sound stutter.
2) frequently greenish/magenta shaded (white) font display in this forum
3) drag CCC (hydravision installed) see link:

1) release notes reads:
" This release of Catalyst™ introduces Tessellation support in the Catalyst™ driver for the ATI Radeon™ HD 3800 Series of products."
as opposed to ATI Developer: Tools - AMD GPU MeshMapper
"Requirements for previewing with displacement and tessellation:- ATI Radeon HD 2000 series or later
- NOTE: Tessellation will first be supported in the March Catalyst driver release."
2) As aforementioned misc. OpenGL apps stopped working sice CAT 7.12
After checking atioglxx.dll with "GPUCapsViewer" it appears that ATI removed more than 20 extensions!
Code:
new since CAT 7.12:
GL_AMD_performance_monitor
GL_ATI_meminfo
GL_EXT_copy_texture
GL_EXT_gpu_program_parameters
GL_EXT_packed_depth_stencil
GL_EXT_subtexture
GL_EXT_texture_sRGB
GL_KTX_buffer_region
WGL_ARB_buffer_region
WGL_EXT_framebuffer_sRGB
nuked after CAT 7.11:
GL_ARB_fragment_program_shadow
GL_ARB_vertex_blend
GL_ATI_element_array
GL_ATI_map_object_buffer
GL_ATI_shader_texture_lod
GL_ATI_texture_mirror_once
GL_ATI_vertex_array_object
GL_ATI_vertex_attrib_array_object
GL_ATI_vertex_streams
GL_ATIX_texture_env_combine3
GL_ATIX_texture_env_route
GL_ATIX_vertex_shader_output_point_size
GL_EXT_clip_volume_hint
GL_EXT_vertex_shader
GL_HP_occlusion_test
GL_EXT_vertex_shader
GL_NV_occlusion_query
GL_S3_s3tc
GL_SGI_color_matrix
GL_SGIS_multitexture
GL_SGIS_texture_border_clamp
GL_SUN_multi_draw_arrays
At least they could have told users about that
3) 3DMark06 SM3 test is borked by solarisation.

I just tried it and it works fine so far as for any improvements i dont know yet i did notice slightly lower framerates in Gun metal benchmark 2 but nothing to moan about
I cant believe they still havent got AGP support in the released driver i cant believe that we still have to use a "hotfix" still better than nothing i guess

I tried the 8.3s last night on my machine. No problems at all and I got a nice performance boost over my previous drivers in a few games
Just did a normal install over the top of the previous drivers.

Seems like I'm the only one getting a major decrease in performance. I wish I knew why.
