I also tried the new versions 4.x with my Audigy1 with Windows XP. I've got a Creative Inspire 5.1 speaker set connected with digital-connector via Creative-5.1-digital-DIN cable. Driver settings 5.1 Digital Out only.
As always at first I uninstalled every Creative stuff first and used driver cleaner afterwards.
The new 4.04.00 doesn't give me a bluescreen during installation anymore, though at the beginning of the Setup (before first restart) an error occurs, like 10 times, that some file is missing (sorry don't remember the filename).
Except that everything installs like a charm.
Usually I use the YouP-Pax 2.32 sp2 apps to control audigy settings. Here are my problems, which are the same with every version newer than "YouP-PAX AudigyX 3.63.03d":
1) good old compact surmix2 doesn't start anymore "error initializing the mixer-engine"
2) AudioHQ starts with error "CtSuRes.DLL is missing". But it seems to work.
3) Audigy4 GraphicEqualizer doesn't work anymore. Error Message "not enough memory". Two of the modded pfmod.dlls I found let it crash. The one coming with the driver and the on provided by mcclealand give the same error meessage above.
4) Audigy4 Surround Mixer: Every little change on any Volume control sets every channel except left and right to zero volume. This makes the Creative apps absolutely unuseful. I can only change Volume with Windows standard mixer.
5) like Readme.txt says I didn't install AudioConsole. But the sp2 app2 include a version too, this one still works excellent, thank god.
I guess I better try Creative standard drivers next time I reinstall Windows.
