EEK! Hello Dark Side

Well it had to happen sooner or later.

After running ATi Cards through from a radeon 7000, 9600xt, 9800, then XT, X800XT and then finally an X1900XTX I've finally gone to the darkside, embraced willingly with the promise of a bright new future.

OK, it was cheapish, looks great, is quiet and is already overclocked so so saving me a job (for now ).

I give you.......

The Xpertvision 8800GT Sonic.

Now, does anyone have any tips about these here new fangled Nvidia cards then (Especially under Vista 64).

I just joined the camp today.. doing a whole system overhaul (switching to Intel AND nVidia) once my tax return comes in, but I bought the card and got it today.

I went from Voodoo 3 -> 9200 -> 9500 Pro -> X700 Pro -> X1650XT -> X1950XT. Now I'm running an eVGA 8800GT. I never thought I'd see the day.

Cor you went back in time didn't you, I dismissed anything pre R7000 as not worth typing :O)

Whereabouts would a geforce 256 come in your list then? (Asus V6600)

Look at the specs on this smasher

I have to say that NV image quality in video playback has drastically improved with the 8800 series, pretty much on par with AMD/ATI in that aspect now. And considering if you hunt around you can get an 8800GT 512MB for just over $200

Mind you, I still prefer ATIs 2D quality. Time and again I keep noticing that ATIs 2D quality is sharper (especially text), and colors are more vibrant by default. No matter how much tweaking I do, I just can't get a system running an Nvidia card to match that level of quality. I can come close when I use a professional calibration tool like a ColorVision Spyder2, but it's still not right.
