It's a man's world...

Just been listening to some James Brown and remembered that his death was just over a year ago. His music was, and still is great. Doesn't sound dated at all. And every performance would be different as it would more-or-less be improvised jamming.

RIP Mr Brown. Not only was his music an inspiration to many but he provided great impetus to the civil rights movement, equality and freedom. God Bless

I've taken a lot of heat for my admiration of the Godfather of Soul's music but his stuff is just awesome and I'm not letting anyone tell me differently

Got the 4 CD set "Star Time" on my iPod and whenever I get bored his music is a great pick me up; hell, the song titles alone cheer me up: "Hot Pants Part 1" , "Got Ants in my pants" ...the man loves his pants!

I'm a big fan myself. One of the bands I used to play in covered several of his songs, we basically had a whole set of James Brown tunes. It wasn't until then that I really appreciated his music, the technique and structure of it was pretty amazing.

I watched him live once back in 1999 IIRC. He was in Thessaloniki for 1-2 nights. The whole performance was...way below average. I enjoyed seeing the guy in person, but 2 friends that I brought them to it were not very happy for the time spent there...between you and me, I think he was way high during the whole thing.

His songs on the other hand (recordings) are great.
