New build - overclocking question

New guy here with a couple of questions. I'm putting together a new build this week with these components.

GIGABYTE GA-X38-DS4
Intel Q6600
Asus Silent Knight II heatsink/fan
Transcend Axeram 2x1GB ddr2 1200

I plan on running the cpu around 3Ghz which I don't foresee being a problem. My main question is regarding the RAM. I plan on running this RAM at 1200Mhz at 2.2v and I've read that this board may have some troubles running the RAM at this voltage, mainly overheating problems damaging the RAM slots.

Does anyone have any experience with running RAM above the supported 1.8v? If any other info is needed don't hesitate to ask, but I think I covered the necessities. TIA!

Some divider problems on X38.... but it shouldnt have any major problems..... 3.2ghz(400x8) might be a better sweet spot, puts your ram at 266mhz NB strap and a better divider.

These settings in MB Intelligent Tweaker should get you 3.2GHz and 1200 DDR.

DDR2 OverVoltage Control [+0.40] = 2.2V
CPU OverVoltage Control [1.300V]

You should also try DDR2 1000 at tighter DRAM timing. You may like it better.

You sir, are my new hero. That is great info! Before I purchased the aXeram, I was actually thinking about going with DDR2 1000 or 1066 with better timings and boosting it to 1200 but I figured this way was a bit safer, plus I couldn't beat the price. I may pickup a set of 1000/66 anyway just to try it and see the difference. I got the ASUS heatsink/fan in the mail yesterday and all I can say is OMFG... this thing is monstrous! I hope it fits!

So as of last night everything is in and running AMAZING at stock speeds. Mobo appears to have automatically set the RAM to 2.2v so 1200mhz was no problem. I left it running all night and no issues, cpu seems to be stable at 30c at idle, haven't checked under load yet. I'm going to give it another day or so to be sure everything seems to be running accordingly, then I'm going to start upping the cpu and see what this baby can really do. Not only did it post first shot no problems, but I had an old HDD in there and it actually booted into xp pro without incident with completely new hardware! Of course it wanted me to reactivate but other than that, no hiccups. I'm impressed Microsoft! Formatted and installed Vista Ultimate and so far so good.
