ok heres the down low on todays technology
we got
Quad Core CPUs
Intel is the new king of computing, AMD got crushed mercilessly
the newest memory standard is DDR3 and goes up to 1800mhz
one can have up to 4 GPUs/ cards in one system now
4 gigs of RAM is the new gaming standard.
so where do you wanna start?

X38 is Intel's most powerful enthusiast class chipset, it is THE best performing item in Intels motherboard MCPs
the G33 is intel's budget MCP, it comes equipped with lower end features, integrated graphics and the boards usually have no RAID support.
depending on what you want to do, you cant go wrong with the X38 chipset, but it depends on what you wanna do.

6 gigs? thats not efficient, go with either 4 or 8 gigs, and thats a DDR3 motherboard, to get a set of 2x2GB memory will set you back about
600 dollars.....
the best Quad Core today is the Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX9650 thats my recommendation

i might be leaning toward this cpu
INTEL CORE 2 EXTREME QX6850 3.0GHZ EM64T QUAD CORE W/4MB X 2 CACHE
or INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q6700 2.66GHZ EM64T QUAD CORE

no dont! not good CPUS to go with at all,
if you want to go with a Kentsfield core CPU, id rather you go with a Q6600
the QX9650 is the best CPU out there, it is at least 20% better than the QX6850 and the Q6700
you can also OC the thing to 5GHz easy.

an unlocked multiplier and bragging rights
the unlocked multiplier is really for those hardcore OCers that dont care about how much stress is on the hardware and want to pump as much GHz out of their CPU as possible, im talking guys who got phase change and liquid nitrogen cooling.
its not really necessary if you just want a minor 3GHz OC and plan to just do daily tasks on the computer, just save your money.

dont get 6 gigs of RAM go for either 4GB or 8GB
anything else and you cut your bandwidth from 128bits to 64bits...... not good performance
if you plan to build after March, there will be new components out on the market
these components are the X48 chipset and the mainstream 45nm Quads Q9550, Q9450, etc.
eventually Gigabyte will come out with an enthusiast X48 board and im guessing thats the GA-X48T-DQ6
so my recommendation would be then:
GA-X48T-DQ6 : Intel X48 Express Chipset
2x2GB or 4x2GB DDR3 1600mhz RAM brand doesnt matter but OCZ seems to have the best cooling currently.
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 1333mhz FSB 12mb L2 cache CPU

it is very minor, but there is official support for 1600mhz FSB processors and 1600mhz DDR3
it also has a bit more power than the X38 in general as it is a "handpicked" chip
as with all motherboard MCPs, there is hardly a difference in performance, but stability and compatibility is another thing, this chip can go farther with official support and saves the user from having to tweak the system very much.
