CCC Won't Start?
Hey all. I'm running Vista Home Premium x86 on a Sapphire Radeon HD 2600PRO(512). I've been having minor problems getting this all rigged up(I've just gotten a new motherboard, processor, ram and vid card. New computer basically) and this is one of them. WoW will crash every 10 minutes or so while I'm playing it, and the only solution I've read so far is to mess with something inside CCC. Which brings me to the problem, CCC simply won't open for me. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and CCC several times, but all its done is made me restart a few too many times. Any clues as to what I need to do?

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!
First since new drivers are out I would recommend you to test them. And make sure that you have .NET framework 2.0 installed and fully updated

Gladly
AMD 64X2 Brisbane 4800+ Processor(2.5GHz)
ASUS M2A-MVP motherboard
2 gigs of G-skill PC800 DDR2
Sapphire Radeon HD 2600 PRO
What else can I provide?
As for .Net2.0, I attempted to install it once, and I believe it said that I already had it installed.
Edit: Also, I've been using the 7.11 Vista x86 drivers.

ok, since you got Vista it's obvious that you got .NET installed... Try the new 7.12 CAT's if they do difference..

Roger that. I remember that on my old hardware config(This was before my processor died) it wouldn't work either, but I didn't worry about it too much then because it didn't make a difference.

there really shouldnt be anything wrong there.....
once the 7.12s are in it should work.
oh yea, i noticed drivers install a lot better if you actually uninstall the old ones first then put in the new ones.
everytime i did "update" i got issues similar to yours

Gotcha. Once these are finished downloading I'll go in and uninstall the old ones, then see about installing.
Is there any special way to uninstall to make sure I get it all?

No dice here. It still just half-heartedly pretends to boot, but no programs are actually running. Checked the task manager, still nothing.

Try installing the drivers in Safemode.
Also, try running CCC as administrator.

oh yea.... vista.....
yea try running the whole mess as administrator, certain high level programs will not run or run properly unless given full administrator privileges. noticed that with certain antivirus, ATiTool, and i think even CCC
man i forgot about that....

No luck running it as administrator. I did it for any CCC option I had, including "Reset Runtime."

With this being a new system, have you gotten any BIOS updates, motherboard/chipset drivers, etc from the motherboard site? Make sure you have those installed. Also, check to see if you have the latest DirectX 10 update from Nov.

Bringing up this old topic:
I´ve just purchased a Sapphire Radeon 3870 X2 PCI-e card which runs so far fine but....
I´ve done a clean Windows Vista Business 64bit install. Post installation i´ve firstly let Vista update all nessesary M$ updates that were available. Everything is done and it say: My system is updated, no more updates available.
Okay. Then i´ve downloaded the latest Catalyst 8.1 drivers for my Vista x64. I have to say that i´ve enabled the Admin Account under Vista completely so I do not need to obey to UAC anymore. I have all the full rights.
I´ve started the installation of Catalyst and everything went smooth. After a reboot of the machine i´ve logged on as Admin and the first thing I got was an App Crash of the CCC. After a long hours search on the WWW, here and on the Sapphire Forums I always get the same procedures like:
- Uninstall the drivers
- User DriverCleaner
- Install latest .NET
- Try older drivers
You all can believe me i´ve tried everything but I still fail to get the CCC running. And now the Protocol says that the drivers weren´t WDM drivers
I am in a One Way currently. Never had so much trouble with NV cards in the past. I just decided to hang with this card because of it´s performance.
Regarding the .NET message. I´ve the latest updates installed but I still don´t get the frecking CCC loaded. The hardware itself was recognized, only the application doesn´t work. And the poor AMD/ATI support just told me I should refer to the user manual. I´m currently really disappointed.
Can someone help me maybe? Have I forgotten something?
Thanks community

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!
Did you disabled the uac ? Since even with admin account it still pops up all the time if its enabled.

As i´ve written I have full admin rights as i´m not using UAC at all. But finally after 8 hours of frustration I got it working but don´t ask me how. I just uninstalled the ATI drivers again as they were in english language only. So then i´ve downloaded the Display Driver Package only and a separate CCC software in my native german language from the ATI drivers site. After i´ve installed the Display Driver with a following reboot and then an install of the German CCC software I got it finally working. Why? I don´t know but i´m finished for today and happy that this crap control panel which relies on .NET finally works here. No wonder that so many people ask for a native control panel that works with all features included instead of a ATI one where also the Developers don´t care at all what customers do have on problems. Just money makers, that´s all. As a customer you are bound to the community which is a great ressource but if it comes to professional customer care regarding AMD/ATI then you´re just a Number for them and get stupid answers.
I hope I was a bit helpful with my way of curing the problem.
