Help with laptop screen!?

Hello everybody. I recently replaced my laptop screen with a new one i just purchased, however when i would try to close the screen or apply pressure on the back towards the top middle left it'll seem to become distorted. It just shows wavy lines. It seems to be around where the video cable on the back of the screen is located. Is there any way to fix this? Here's an example of what i'm talking about.

Somewhat like that but instead wavy lines and not as bad, it's very little. Not my picture, just wanted to show an example.

Welcome to DH.

Could you post your system specs, including the make and model of the laptop.

My first guess would be that there is something wrong with the cable.

My first questions is, why did you replace the screen in the first place? Second, does the problem persist, or is it only when you apply pressure?

Also, if you could get a pic of the actualy problem, it would be very benefitial.

It's a HP dv5116nr laptop 2.2 GHZ AMD 512 MB Ram. I replaced the screen because it was cracked and got worst. It only happens when i apply pressure and i'll post pics when i'm not busy. (Finals) Thanks a lot.

Edit: Pictures. First picture is normal, no pressure put on the back. Second and third are pictures of pressure put on the area. Sorry if pictures are a little blurry.

Am I correct in saying the problem doesn't distort the objects on the screen, it just adds the strange colors?

Also, do the colors seem behave as it you were pressing on the front of an LCD screen? (tough to explain). When you remove pressure, do they immediately go away?

yes it just adds strange rainbow colors, i didn't know a word to use so distort was the closest. yes it's kinda like when you push the front of a lcd screen but instead the lines aren't the same. It doesn't show that watery effect like when you touch a front of the lcd screen but it has similar colors. It goes away rather quickly. Basically as soon as i let go of the pressure put on it.

Does it happen both when the laptop is running on batteries and plugged into an outlet?

It doesn't seem to be an issue with the GPU, but you may want to plug in an external monitor and double check. It seems to me like there might be an issue with the panel or the connection. If you haven't tried to reconnect it, that might help. Check out the connector and see if it looks OK. if it was me, I might be looking into sending the thing back. I'll refer this to some others and get some more opinions.

Yes it happens both with power and battery. I'm pretty sure it's the connector with the video cable. It seems like it's not securely in place. That's why when i took it apart and moved the video cable it changed colors and did all these strange things. I just have to find a way to connect the video cable to the screen securely but i don't know how.
