Welcome to DH!

Thats a proprietary motherboard from HP, correct? If so, it won't recognize the new proc. Proprietary boards are designed specifically for teh systems they are put into. You won't be able to get a BIOS update to recognize the new proc.

If you need some suggestions for an nice AM2 board, I'm sure someone around here knows exactly what is good for your price range, feel free to post it.

Thread moved to appropriate forum, as well.

HP OEM board? wow thats a mess....

yea it is better to just get an intel board with a better processor, AM2 isnt a wise investment at all...

just try the 6000+ before you do anything because you may be lucky..... i do not know which models that board belongs to but if a 6000+ is a capable upgrade on any of them then it may just work!

oh yea.... power requirements..... youre going to probably need more power than 550w especially since you have that X1950PRO and a 6000+ in the same set up.....

the 6000+ consumes far more power than even the intel QX6850 at 130-150w it is a hungry heat factory.....

Not really. Given that he has a low number of drives (2 HDDs and 1 Optical drive) and not many other components, a 450-500W unit would be fine. That system won't consume more than 300-350W maximum.

Trying to upgrade a propertiary system though is a problem. Even if you can replace the motherboard, the PSU may be propertiary as well and it will not work with a standard ATX motherboard. Usually ATX motherboards and PSUs will not fit in such systems.

Pentium 4 sucks major balls but athlon X2 and Phenom are doing the sucking now man. 6000+ is not a very good performer or OCer, get an Intel e6550 and OC the crap out of it, it will beat any athlon or phenom thats gonna come out.

Intel has been on top for more than a year and is apparently going to be for at least another year. also, his PSU seems to be an antec Truepower Trio so thats no propertiary PSU, as long as it isnt, it can be changed
