NVIDIA Ge Force FX 5200 128 MB Question

I know this graphics card is older than dirt but its the one I use for my backup PC. I'm just curious if the card would work well with the Omega drivers or am I better off sticking with the latest driver from NVIDIA.

Thanks in advance.

exclamation

No one can tell me if the latest NVIDIA Omega drivers would work better with my Ge Force FX 5200 (128 MB) than the latest NVIDIA drivers? I know the NVIDIA Omega drivers development is temporarily suspended but I would still like an answer to my question.

Thanks in advance to whoever can answer my question.

P.S. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone here!
P.S.S. Pardon my double post.

I actually have a Geforce 5200FX 128MB by evga sitting in my living room, which btw i planned to get rid of it, because i dont need it anymore. I am using the Geforce 5500 now, but planned to buy the 6200.

Anyway, the NVIDIA Omega driver is too much trouble installing, just use the 56.56 driver from Nvidia , i'm using it for my 5500 and it works great.

Thank you. If the driver is that hard to install I'm not going to bother to try. How much of a performance improvement is there out of curiosity?

Yea, the omega driver with ATI is easy, just install. But you have to do something else to get it to work.

Anyway, using the geforce 5500 256MB card , i testest pretty much every driver from this page:

Note: I am using windows98se, but shouldnt be that much of a difference with xp or 2000 drivers
Windows 95/98/Me Driver Archive

Driver 81.89 + 81.85 = Flaws, runs ok, but has mointor problems on my end.
77.72 drivers , works ok too, but major grammar problem when watching videos, pretty much impossible to watch it. There is a fix, but i dont want to be bother with it.

56.56 which you can download from here:
download from Guru3D.com

Those drivers seems to work just fine. Peformance boost? Not a major one, but i dont have trouble playing any games, and the framerate runs better. Bottom line, 56.56. drivers seems to be faster then the newest drivers , the 81 drivers.

FX Cards are old, so its wise to use old drivers, but not too old.

When i had my radeon 700064mb card, every new driver work horrible when playing games. But going back to 4.3 , man every game that i had trouble with ran at nearly 60fps. So the 56.56. seems perfect for the 5200 and 5500 cards.

You might want to think about buying the 6200 card. Its cheap, like 50 or 60 dollars online and offline. I'm picking it up for my this computer, my final upgrade on this computer. 5200 and 5500 cards are powerful tho, but i'm replacing them with the 6200, its the perfect card for my win9x/PCI slot computer.

peace

@ aurora: i suggest that you use the 91.47 or the 93.71 drivers for your card. i've installed those two drivers on several different machines i've fixed, and my machine at work is also using the 93.71 driver as well with no problems.

@ TNGOG: i don't think that the PCI version of the 6200 card will work in a win9x environment. it will need to be installed in a win2k/xp or vista machine in order for that card to work. the last win9x/ME driver released by NVIDIA was the 81.98, which only supports the standard 6200 card. This information can be found on NVIDIA's product support page for that particular driver. If you pick up a PCI 6200 card, be sure it's just the base model. Even then, i'm not sure if it will work or not because the PCI 6200 card was released much later than when the OS was finally no longer supported.

CDsDontBurn, The BFG Geforce 6200 PCI card and the EVGA Geforce 6200 PCI 256MB Card , those are the 2 which i planned to buy, are you saying they wouldnt work?

I read the product note, they mention the 6200, there is only one PCI 6200 card out, with different brands, BFG, evga, Janton.

And btw, look at this:
Win9x - (66.94)

They also support the 6200. So either card should work. I'm going to pick it up today, i will let you know how it is, later

i'm not sure if the 6200 PCI card is supported by win9x is what i'm saying. if it's using the same GPU as the 6200 AGP card, then yes it will work, otherwise it won't. so, please let me know if that card does end up working in a win9x environment .

and the 66.94 is a much older driver, but it seems that it is the first driver that supported the lower-end 6x00 series cards.

Well i have to order the card online, i wasnt' able to get it, the store only had the AGP versions.

Anyway, as i said before the 56.56 driver works fine on my end, so it should work fine on the 5200 card. Take care!
