Simple Recording\Playback Setup?

Hi, sorry for being kinda n00bish but I've looked over and gone through quite a few guides and still I'm not getting it completely..
Could someone explain to me this (the most basic of) DSP setups:

Got my guitar hooked up on SPDIF in and wanna map it on Ableton, so its on ASIO.
I read that SPDIF gets resampled in the card so I was wondering if I was able to record it bit-by-bit directly on ASIO for quality.
Also I want to enable the best possible audio playback without resampling, I read something about using FXBusx. Somebody with a free time please explain them to me and with a little fondling around i hope to completely get it.

See the kX Direct Recording Guide. Note that this cannot be done with ASIO recording.

What about the setup? Why don't you show me an example of what I can do for my setup..

1) I do not have a 10k2 card, so I cannot do the Direct Recording thing.

2) Direct Recording bypasses the DSP, so there is no setup other than enabling Direct Recording and choosing the recording source, etc.

As for playback, I intentionally did not respond to that part of the question because:

1) You did not say what speaker setup you were using (i.e. are you outputting a digital signal, or is it analog?). For that matter, you did not even tell us which model sound card you have, leaving it for us to search the forum to find out that you have an Audigy (SB0090).

2) I do not have a 10k2 card, so I left it for someone else to answer (someone that does have a 10k2 card, and would most likely be able to give you better info).

3) Best quality would probably mean not modifying the signal in any way in the DSP (i.e. Use WaveHQ and bypass the DSP), but again it depends on your speaker setup and what you want to do, etc.

I do not have a 10k2 card, so I have no experience with Direct Recording or WaveHQ, but I responded to give you something to start with until someone else responds.

Thanx for the info Russ.. Yeah sorry about not mentioning I have an Audigy SB0090 card with the Livedrive I\Os..

About direct recording, if its not possible on ASIO might as well forget about it since I do all my recordings on ASIO. If I was seeking quality like I said I'll record the guitar SPDIF signal directly through other software..

I tried hooking up prolog "CD SPDIF Left" and "CD SPDIF Right" to epliog "ASIO1" and "ASIO2" to record the SPDIF guitar signal on ASIO programs like ableton but don't get any sound in the program.. What am I doing wrong?

I am not sure which SPDIF connection you are using for an input, but I doubt that it is CD SPDIF (it is typically an internal connector on the card).

Try the "Coaxial / Optical" pins on prolog and unmute it's associated slider on the "Ins and Outs" page of kxmixer. Trace which ASIO pins it is connected to on epilog (or connect it yourself to the desired ASIO pins/channels you want to use) and setup Ableton to use those inputs.

Again I do not have an Audigy (or Live Drive), so I am not completely familair with its inputs, but if the above does not work, then you can always use a peak plugin(s) to figure out which pins to connect to on prolog (i.e. connect to a pair of pins on prolog, unmute the associated slider on the Ins and Outs page, and see if you see the signal on the peak plugin's GUI when you play something on the guitar (if not, try the next pair of pins, etc)).
