exclamation Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit + Dell Optiplex 755 + Radeon 2400 HD XT + RandomATIKMDAG

topic says it all folks.

I've been dealing with this for about 6 weeks now.

Dell Optiplex 755 (Core 2 Quad, with Radeon 2400 HD XT)

2gigs ram.
Vista 32bit (Ultimate) from my technet subscription.

we have 4 identical systems, 3 are fine, but mine is the one at hand w/ issue.

The system will be functioning fine, then all of a sudden randomly, I'll get these weird jagged lines, and weird graphic glitches/anomolies, then I'm like oh jeez, here we go again, in 3 seconds the screen will go black, I'll hear a loud fan spin, then the screen will come back, and that display notice in the bottom right will show: the atikmdag issue in the system tray.

I"ve been trolling the net for months, and the problem seems widespread. I'm under the impression it's a pletheora of glitches from various platofrms all working together to form these radeon issues coincidently.

However, Dell posted a link to me today that fixed it 100%, so maybe if some of you can analyze the files, maybe we can tell what it does?

Evidently the fix flashed my Optiplex 755 bios, and they threw in a few ati related dll and system files, that was the fix.

A mixture of updated ati files, and a bios flash for the optiplex 755.

Dell will not say what caused it, but I know my issue has 100% went away.

This is the link to the URL people.

Please follow up with me, and tell me what you think? Im curious as to what fixed this.

THey were almost going to RMA me a new card, but right at the last second, the tech support person I was engaged with in dells web-chat (Real time) posted that link to me.

Looks like they flashed the Video card BIOS to deal with Dynamic Power Management issues. I don't see any evidence of graphics drivers or other system drivers. All the files appear to be related to the bios and flash. I will see what I can dig up beyond that.

Btw, since I installed that "flash"

I have never had the error again, maybe this is insight into all other ATIKMDAG issues that other users face w/ vista & radeon cards?

my situation is resolved.

did you find anything out?
