EVGA man... the EVGA 8600GTS SSC edition is by far, the highest OC card out there as well as the cheapest

Newegg.com - EVGA 256-P2-N768-A1 GeForce 8600GTS SSC 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

If Creative still does graphics cards, don't buy Creative. Other than that, you should be ok. The above brands you mentioned are all very good.

Yep hes right, thats a killer deal and really nice clock speeds. The only thing i would recommend is that you should maybe look for a 512 mb version if you plan on gaming in dx10 games with it.

8600GTS + DX10 gaming = low low FPS divided by 2 = DON'T DO IT!

but i guess the 512mb memory would help running lowest settings in CoD4 and Crysis 640x480, but theres no SSC edition of a 512mb version and theyre all $190+

id recommend the 8800GT card, nothing's better and theres no bigger bang for the buck

I've just been reading loads of stuff on various forums (including DH) as well as reviews on the 8800GT. It whips the 8600GTS for only a few more dollars. It also spanks the 8800GTS. Well worth the money if your budget well stretch just that little bit further

the 320 or the 640 GTS? Also, don't forget the higher resolutions where more memory is needed.
I play all my games (that support it) at 1920x1200.
256MB would not be enough.

Not that I know the difference at high resolutions betwee the 512MB GT and the 640MB GTS, but I just had to say this:
640>512. :-p

There, I said it.

If you don't plan to run at high resolutions then by all means get the 8800GT, it is a great card.

Anyway, too much tea, I am out. Peace!

the performance difference is minimal, and only EVGA makes the 512MB versions AFAIK

with the high demand of getting one of these, good luck getting one!

the 8800GT does outperform the 8800GTS 320MB, and is very similar in performance to the 640MB 8800GTS. Both the 640MB GTS and the GT are better than the other in their own respects. The architecture of both cards is different. While one has more memory, the other has more stream processors and higher clock speeds making up for the loss of having lesser memory.

The resellers I use are giving an ETA of stock anytime between today and the 16th. They are however a bunch of lying bastards and I don't expect them until the end of the month. I have one on order for my new rig I'm putting together.

only if you're comparing the 320MB 8800GTS to the stock 8800GT card, yes. Also the stock 640MB 8800GTS would also be equivalent to the stock 8800GT card.

most of which so far have been by end user, not by any review sites

NVIDIA Forums -> My Test : 8800GT Versus 8800 GTS (Both EVGA)

EVGA 8800GTS 640MB (w/112SPs) SSC Edition Review - Hardware Canucks

seems you gotta have an EVGA 8800GTS 640MB SSC in order to beat the 8800GT at stock speeds
