this game's performance is atrocious.... it looks insane, but man even with this setup its getting slaughtered! UT3 demo runs 3x faster than this. 100fps at 1680x1050, i expect 60-70 in the final version. the detail is nuts on this game, but the controls feel like a console port of a 360 game. I can get the suit control to work without holding down the mouse. Im running it at 1280x800, tried the new drivers with no luck in perfomance boost. I have most everything on very high and few things on high and it gets to framerates of under 30.
All in all beautiful game, but too beautiful for its own good IMO.

I finally waited for the email for the 500kb/s severs (just to sign in to fileshack under forgotten p/w).. Took a couple hrs to download at 400 to 450 kb/s- haven't installed it yet. I imagine it will put a hurtin' on my 3700 San Diego @ 2.7ghz.

Crysis rapes my machine. I've played the MP beta demo and it's hard to say if this is any more optimized than it. Using the new drivers and I played around with various settings mostly High/Medium or All Medium with 2x AA. Performance wasn't very smooth and sometimes froze up for a few seconds.
I agree that UT3 looked about as good (in same places) yet ran much smoother. I hope EA can tweak it somewhat more before release.

I just finished downloading the demo. I cant play it because i had surgery on my right elbow yesterday, but i was gonna install it and let my brother play so i could see how pretty it is. I don't know if it will even run on my system though seeing some people's specs. Eh, I'm gonna install it anyways

It runs pretty well (I can run it at 1920 with all the settings in game maxed out), but its certainly not optimised, a lot of games with fairly equivalent graphic quality run better. Hopefully they spend some time sorting that out before release. The only system ive been able to get the game playable (35fps+) at 1920+ resolution with high settings is in fact the system in my profile, thats a scary thought.

Yes. Does the demo support 64bit? Still downloading... Or will it be a later patch?

on vista 64bit, install the demo. go into program files x64/electronic arts/crysis demo then find the bin32 and bin64 folder. there are exes in each.
the 64bit version runs a bit better, quite marginal, but every little helps.

Here's what I'm running after some tweaking, this is the best for my system
I get no less than 30fps, usually about 35, and up to 45, very playable. I'm quite happy now.
One funny thing; since this morning, if I enable high quality shadows, the system crashes. Happened more than once, so I'm avoiding it for now.

yea thats pretty ridiculous i have to agree... that setup should be running this game like a joke. this game is like a massive technical demo of some sort or something.

May I point out that Farcry was also far ahead of its time on the maxed out settings? Crytek never intended for us to be able to run it on the highest settings with the current generation of cards.

I totally agree with you, crytek are a brilliant, innovative and creative company. That said, I think there is still plenty of room with this game for optimisation, and going on past record with farcry, Crytek will release a TON of patches for Crysis in the next 6 months (and probably even more tech code changes as 2008 progresses).
at 1920 with everything on very high, I get 30fps average with a single card (system in profile), I think thats pretty good for a prerelease, early demo build of the game with "current" hardware, right?
Incidentally just for the record, ive noticed this game makes calls into 6 of the 8 processors in this rig, and gains benefits right up to 4 GIG of memory (obviously 16GB isn't needed at all)..........

So the current consensus amongst many boards that the current build of Crysis isn't optimised for dual (Or in your case Octo) CPU is incorrect? interesting...
And indeed, Far Cry still taxes modern systems at high res with AA/AF applied, and it still holds up today, lets hope that unlike the CryEngine1, that CryEngine2 is used by more devs, it would be a shame to only see 1 or 2 games use this amazing engine.

Well I wouldnt say its optimised at all, ive just seen the game make calls into 6 of the processors. ive seen the same with supreme commander, but its certainly not 100% loading all 8 by a long shot.

True, but over on gaf people were squealing like the game didn't even touch anything beoynd the first core, so it's nice to see that it is

I honestly don't know, there is only one non FC game that is (Will be) powered by CryEngine, which is a MMORPG by NCsoft, and I don't think it's not for the lack of effort, after all Crytek updated the engine 4 times, adding things like HDR and full SM3 support along the way, I suppose as it wasn't created by a "western" dev team that many publishers stayed away, hell even Ubisoft went for Unreal 2/2.5 for their games in that period, criminal!

I hope it's true that the game isn't using both cores in dual core computers because that will provide a decent boost once they fix that

In fact, according to the ravenous mob that hides on neogaf, the 64bit Vista client doesn't do DX10 as well, could you confirm/deny that? as for the "optimization" thing, going by the main Crysis thread, it appears that the only people saying it are bitching at not getting 100fps on a X2 4200 with outdated cards, still, some testing would be cool, and after all, you have 8 cores, so you could easily test the differences
I'll post some pics myself later, and I may make a new gaming screenshot thread, if that's ok with you?

Well, it is Far Cry 2 (Well, obviously is ISN'T Far Cry 2, Ubi are making that, and that looks about as sick as Crysis, amazingly enough) :P

Not sure how reliable this is: Quad-core is Crysis phwoar - The INQUIRER
Quote:
INTEL'S SPINNERS will surely be rubbing their hands in glee at the latest news to come out of the Crytek - ahead of the demo of Crysis, due to land tomorrow, Crytek's man in charge has revealed that a quad-core processor is top of his list of essential upgrades.
Cervat Yerli, who seems to spend more time talking to the press than actually working on finishing the game, revealed that on most systems, Crysis is likely to be CPU bound. "If [your system is] balanced, we are more CPU bound then GPU, " he told Shacknews. Crytek's Cevat Yer | | |
