Academic version

I found the academic version of Vista home premium bundled with Halo 2 for a very very very good price. That is unless this version is a reduced functionality version of Vista. Do you know if there are any differences between them?

Well, it looks like the versions are identical. The only problem is that the specific offer is for the greek version of Vista. Not sure I want that, though the huge price difference make it very tempting.

I am sort of.
The price difference is amazing.
The non academic home premium is at 329 euros.
This academic version with Halo 2 included is at 99 euros.

I am worried that the greek version will be less compatible or less updated or something.

I already have an english trialware version of english vista and so far it has less hardware compatibility problems than my XP system...which is kind of weird considering all the accusations from others against Vista.

yeah that accusations are just hot air. I have Vista and never had any issues with hardware. But if you can get that academic version you should get it. There isn't any difference with the different language versions just the category's like Home basic, premium etc etc...

Do you know if it is possible to sort of change the language of the OS? I use english language OSes for 20 years now, not sure I can change to greek overnight.

There isn't any way to change the language what the OS uses so if the media is in Greek it's stays that way. But if you got the English media for Home premium I think you can use the other product key ... But I'm not 100% sure it will work.

Now that sounds like a great thing. Anyone knows if this is possible?

Yeah, huge one. I am just not sure I would be able to work with the greek version. If it would work to use the greek key for the english version would be great, but I have my doubts. Of course that would mean having to use a "trialware" version of Vista with a legit key, but...

Well the offer is no more. The price has gone 10 euros down for the greek and now also english version, but no Halo 2 included.
Now I am considering buying it or not depending on if I buy it if I will have problem "upgrading" it to a 64bit version. Don't know how that goes, meaning if the academic versions have 64bit versions or not.
Microsofts sends the 64bit version to you for a small fee, but no word on if it works on the academic versions of it. Upgrade edition as well...

I got an academic version of vista from my college's msdn academic alliance site. I just had to pay for the dvd media and shipping, which was around 15 dollars. A few days ago I went to the 64-bit upgrade purchase site and ordered the 64-bit version of vista business for 10 dollars media and shipping. When it arrives I'll know for sure if the windows product key knows it's an academic key, but my guess is it doesn't; you're just given a legit key.
