??? Support for new iMacs?

Hello everybody,

I'm sitting here on my new Alu iMac using Windows XP. I would like to install an updated ATI driver, but there is none available right now, neither from ATI nor from Apple (or at least I couldn't find one). There is just the one which is available with BootCamp.

The Mobility Modder does not work for me. The driver setup quits with a message saying that it cannot find a compatible driver for my system. But I didn't expect it to work anyway as the card in the iMac is not listed in your supported hardware list and the DeviceID is not included in the CX_52443.inf after modding it.

The ATI card built into this machine is an "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT". I would be very happy to help out with any information needed to include this card into mobility modder, e .g. I can send you the driver provided by Apple and some more system information.

So if you are interested, just drop me a note in this thread and I will try to provide the informations you request.

Thanks in advance
Mecki

P.S.: If you are not interested in adding this card to the supported hardware, I would like to ask you to point me to some online resources where i can find informations on how to mod the ATI driver myself manually.

If ATI has Windows XP versions of the driver download and install those. I've been installing the Catalyst drivers for my ATI Radeon X1900 on my Mac Pro without incident.

The ATI card in the new iMac is a "Mobility" version. There is no download for such drivers on the ATI web site.

Instead of the Mobility Radeon version have you tried installing the Radeon HD 2600 Series driver? That might work.

As mecki said: it's a Mobility Radeon so, no, the non-Mobility drivers won't work. The whole point of the Mobility versions is that the OEMs control the drivers...and that's the whole point of the mod tool.

In the thread for the previous release we have been told to expect Windows XP support for this card in the next version, due in a week or so. It's either wait for that or install Vista. That's an easy decision: I'm waiting for the next version

That's an easy choice for me as well: I'm waiting, too.

Oh I forgot to say: now I can play QuakeWars on Steam - it failed at startup before with a message implying a feature was not supported by the GPU. Now it works

He, thanks, it works with my Alu 20" iMac and the Catalyst 7.9! Great job!

I also tried the 7.10 Catalyst driver, but that didn't work for me. I experienced lockups after the desktop appears. I am using Windows XP Home SP2. Did anybody else experience the same?
