Unstable Auto-Clock

Since i can't be arsed pissing around in the BIOS, rebooting, benching and repeating hundreds of times to get the best results, i enabled the Intelligent Mainboard Tweaker (curiously spelt MIT).

This automatically overclocks my rig depending on CPU and memory load i think, there is a warning (in red, zomg) in the BIOS saying that system stability is highly dependant upon system components.

I was wondering if upping the voltage a touch might make this overclock a little bit more stable?
I've had my rig restart on me a couple of times when i start rendering in C4D, it's disabled for now.

the auto will still be okay for low overclock only, thing is when you use auto the board's BIOS is set to supply too much voltages to everything, chipset, CPU, except the DDR2 voltage.
however, when you use a low overclock grade RAM, the auto DDR2 voltage won't work at all. this will almost always cause system stable issue.

it is still always recommend to best overclock in BIOS by hand only.

Right then i'll keep the auto overclocker disabled since it looks like it's doing more harm than good anyway.
My RAM isn't overclocking grade since it isn't high end/enthusiast, Corsair Value Select :/
the thing is i don't push my ram to the absolute limits so i don't really see any point in getting really high end stuff.
Plus the board on supports DDR667

an example, the BIOS may only supply like a 2.1V when the auto overclock is set, but on a certain module it's actually required 2.15V when using under the certain board and for running it at a certain overclock level.

the more the FSB goes up, the stronger memory module is needed.

take your time, but be careful, i think you can still get a good overclock out of the system.

You know i would just as well not use those auto overclocking features. I have one on my board (left) and i used it for a couple months but then got curious and tested it with cpuz and come to find out if only responded sluggishly and so my processor was doing all the work as standard clock and then getting overclocked afterward. I also have found that with ASUS' version it has a tendancy to change the clock settings at random ex. while idle or in the middle of the night. This may cause problems if you are sleeping and it gets a little toasty. Just my observation.

Never ever use auto overclocking features..... chances are they are not stable at all as the function has no way of determining so. Do it yourself, ask here if you need help.

Overclocking is best left to humans.... the auto OCing software that I have seen in all my life time has always sucked on some level or another. Either its gimped out or doesn't work or fries you as you sleep. (or so I read in procupine14's post )
