I have to agree, the Macs are rather intersting and I would buy one if I didnt have other obligations. PCs are cumbersome, clunky and usually butt ugly in various states of modification. Anyone that appreciates quality and appearance might be drawn to the new Macs as well. My daughter had one in college, albiet an older one, and she loved it.
I have never been a Mac hater, anyone with a lick of sense and a brain knows that Macs are useful and smart, its just the damn price and the fact that Hollywood is still shoving them in our face in just about every syndicated TV show or movie...but what are you gonna do ya know.
If I had the scratch, I would get a Mac. I have been to several demos and noticed that the prices for the peripherals and doo dads for a large Mac is expensive and rather trendy, but hey...its a Mac. A tiny one will do just fine for email and you can still get them at a reasonable price I believe.
And its funny you should show the Dell, we have had nothing but problems with over 700 Dells we just purchased and it was terribly frustrating getting PSU's and Hard Drives replaced and replacing MoBo power connectors, I should think those issues dont occur with Macs.

I do agree that the new iMacs look good and if I had money and room to waste I would definetely buy one.

honostly..... if you can have 100% compatibility with windows running on the new imac.. i'd get one.

i love the mac for what they've become with their simple life and less is more appearance.

realistically, i couldn't use a mac for the life of me.. just can't.

find me a 100% full proof windows compatible installation on the new imac, and i'll get one right away

No I rarely game anymore. I am just really disappointed with Windows Vista & XP lately.

what do you mean by lately? so you used to be happy with windows XP but not now?

frankly i love windows XP at this very moment, it is at it's most stablist peak ever, and runs like a dream. a new sp2c will be released soon which will make things a little more stable. fair enough ok windows still does live upto its windows reputation by it freezing slightly here and there, but c'mon.. that is not reason to move to a mac =)

I've been running Vista Home Premium on my Mac Pro flawlessly for a few months now. Granted, I'm sure I don't stress the Vista side as hard as the Mac side but again no problems here.

I use a Mac 10 hours a day at work and love the OS. I come home and feel....disappointed. Vista is a step in the right direction and it held me off for a bit, but I've had too many problems with it. And once you use a 2D accelerated desktop like OS X or Aero, it is hard to go back to XP.

Well, wanted to make a new thread, but this applies perfectly...

Not only do the latest Imacs game - a bit - the 2x00 drivers are improving - what I'm sure Lowfat realizes is that they are the only computer on the planet that has native support for OSX, Windows, and of course Unix/Linux. They may not be a gamers dream machine, but they can be an OS and software twiddler's ideal platform.

The machine will run Windows not just good, but great! The latest Boot Camp includes a Catalyst 7.7ish driver with a Classic Control Panel (version 8.390 vs 8.391 for Cat 7.7) and will even support Firewire Target Disk Mode from Windows now. Looking like they're going to bring as many of the nifty Mac OS hardware features to Windows (yes, Vista too folks...) as possible. Boot Camp will be fully integrated into Leopard when it arrives 'bout this fall. Wouldn't an iLife suite for Windows be sweet! Dream on, I know, but the hardware looks to be very well supported - better than any other manufacturer out there at present - Dell included.

I'd buy some extra memory to get her to 2 gigs though, after the purchase from Apple.

No, I'm not gonna get one - but I'll be seeing them soon at work. This Macbook Pro is still cranking well. Had to replace both fans over the past year though - Folding takes its toll...

Oh, and I still really don't run OSX on this machine, Windows XP SP2 since March last year. I agree, XP is very stable and reliable and I'm hopeful that SP3 will be even better - on this Macbook Pro...

Aero seems to work fine but I haven't tested Flip3D. No need for it.

Well, I just installed SP2 on one of the new Imacs yesterday - like a glove. Just don't make the mistake of installing XP2, after running Boot Camp to set up the partition, on the existing Mac partition by mistake. My client did that and that's why I got to dig into it . Booted to a white screen and froze - the Apple firmware got ALL confused. No optical boot, no firewire boot, no options at all. Had to physically remove the hard drive and wipe it clean, reinstall it, and restore the original OS/software build. After that, I installed Boot Camp and XP2 easily.

ATI HD2400 graphics on the 20" as well. Nice machine, and much more straightforward to take apart than the previous generation white Imacs, although you almost need to disassemble the unit in a clean room. Between the glossy LCD and the glass cover over it, every tiny bit of dust shows up if any gets onto the LCD screen itself or trapped in between the LCD and glass cover. Apple sells a kit to servicers specifically for this model that actually includes gloves!

yeah I like macs, always have - and they will always have a special place in my tech heart as I started my career on a mac SE/Plus in 1989. but I simply wouldnt use one as a main system anymore, for a variety of reasons.

Cant say im a massive fan of the 2900 series. ive one here, but I never use it. i much prefer the 8800 ultra, on all levels.

Any media work i do, I tend to queue with the multi cores. as you can do 4 or 5 tasks at a time and not see any hits normally.

Well there is a bit of elitism attached to the high end Macs and who can piss on the Displays? That alone sold me on the demo, I sat through three demos here where I live just to see all the visuals. But I am rather dubious of anyone that pisses on a Mac if they have never used or appreciated one.
They are very very popular among our Doctors and Nurses here at the hospital but they do alot of teaching and patient education and their learning modules and interactive software are designed for Macs too. Now if a PC could look as good as a Mac...LOL (I can hear the groans now)

I simply don't play a lot of games right now, and after using the mac for ~ 2 weeks I love this thing. So much more to play with than in the office. I made the right choice.
