I voted: combination of all of the above
Why, well I like to see nice graphics and good AI is always good thing and realistic sound is a must and so is gameplay!

Gameplay is the most important thing.
Remember Scorched Earth, for example? It almost doesn't have any graphics, sound or AI, but it's one of the best games ever

Graphics is not always the most important thing for me.But a game must have huge gameplay value.
As long as there is a good story line/sound and replay value.. this is what i like.
So i suppose i must meet in the middle of all thats listed in the vote list.'combination of all of the above' is my choice.

Let's go back even further to 1984 with Ancient Art of War, and Ancient Art of War at Sea. Up until then I was completely turned off of any type of strategy game. They sucked ass, and I was completely disinterested in them. It was all faster paced gaming for me. That all changed after I played AAoWaS on my uncles Kyotronic 85 (later known as the TSR-80 Model 100). Crap graphics (monochrome, baby!!), blip blip sound, but man.. was it fun. From that point on, I was hooked on strategy games.
Even today I get more enjoyment out of playing some of my older games, like Genghis Khan, L'Empereur, or Romance of the Three Kingdoms on the NES than most of the flashy, multi-kilometer spanning, dual monitor strat games of today.

I like multi player online games more than playing single player so it is just as important to me as everything else to have great MP. I won't even bother buying a game if it is only single player, if ya know what I mean.

How about none of the above. Storyline makes or breaks a game IMO.

Gameplay. Bad controls and no storyline makes for a dumb game.

All of the above, I own a Wii to supplement my PC gaming, and although waggle does help, graphics/sound still make a large difference, look at the difference in quality between say, Excite Truck and Monster Truck 4x4, both graphically and gameplay wise, Excite Truck blows MT 4x4 out of the water.

Easily gameplay. If a game has poor gameplay it sucks regardless of the graphics, sound or AI. Whereas great gameplay can be forgivable if the other areas are lacking, just look at the wii, PS2 and how well Source games still do on pc.

Gameplay is an essential part from my point of view, but I would have liked to have the option to choose story-line as well

graphics, AI, sound can be horrible so long as the gameplay is top notch..
this is easily proven when playing some of the incredibly old games even today. It's definitely not because the 4 bit graphics, or 4 bit sound, or that stupid computer were great, it's simply gameplay. If gameplay wasn't there, no one would play the game again and again and again...
Course if the 3 usually non factors of the game are so SO horrible, that it turns your stomache to even hear the title screen.... then that can seriously rune wanting to play the game for it's gameplay.

Sex scenes.
A badly rendered sex scene (GTA Hot Coffee for example) will break any game but a good one (uh can't think of one) will make the game an instant classic.

It depends whether or not you read the question as 'Which is most important?'
I did, which is why I said gameplay.
Actually I would argue that AI is a subsection of gameplay and I would have ranked them as
1 - Gameplay/AI
2 - Graphics
3 - Sound

Lets see I was going to say that all are important but after reading what people have said I have changed my mind and think that its got to be GAMEPLAY hands down. Coz we all know deep down in our hearts that there is a game that came out in the age of the dinasaurs (a really long time ago) that when we got our hands on it, it revolutionized our lives because of the game play and not the sound, graphics or anything; for me it was DIABLO!! and if you dont have a game like that you are 1 of the few.

We aren't in the eighties or nineties, so good graphics, sound and AI have to come with good gameplay, otherwise I would play old games.

What about playability? To play a game a save every 60 seconds becauses it crashes every 61 seconds, breaks your neck - or at least the games' one.
And yes, I rather play my old games (Indy3, Indy4, Sam and Max, Lords of the Realm, Patrizier II/III) and have a lot of fun with them, than playing UT2018 just because of great graphics!

Gameplay, bugs, GUI, graphics, copy protection, in that order.
Under gameplay I include AI.
If a game fails miserably at one of them, the rest better be the best in the field or else the game has no place in my gaming time. There are always exce | |
