TV Wonder 650 and Windows Vista problem
Hi all, I recently purchased this ATI TV Wonder 650 PCI card for my computer, but I can't get the ATI Theater Driver to install. The card does not have any problems in my Device Manager, though the only spot it shows up is under the Sound, Video and Game Controllers section listed as ATI Unified AVStream Driver.
I'm not able to fully install the softare off the CD it came with, as when I click the "Install Catalyst" nothing happens. It's like my computer just won't do it. So far I've been able to get the Cataylst Install Manger running by downloading the 32 bit Vista drivers from ATI's website, 7.1 version I believe , but when it's installing, it says there are errors and spits out the following .xml file..
edit - Looks like I can't link to an xml file, so ummm here's a screen shot I took of it...

My current system is as follows...
Intel Core 2 Duo - 2.4 ghz
2 gigs RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit
nVidia GeForce 6800

Greetings and welcome to DriverHeaven.
If I've read my support news correctly, the capture device is not yet supported in VISTA. If someone has information contrary to this, I'd like to hear from them.
So, stay tuned and I hope you can get the help you need soon.

hmm, that's what I kinda figured, but the box even has the ATI Certified - Windows Vista Premium Ready logo on it. And they had Vista 32 bit drivers for download on ATI's site, so you'd think it'd work right?

Yep, you certainly would.
Just as much as I figured my USB UMAX scanner would work, too. But, I figured wrong and found out that UMAX may not even be considering drivers for Vista. This is a legal sized scanner I really like, too. So, until the drivers department catches up, I'm not eager to jump onto the Vista bandwagon. I'll likely wait until at least Service Pack 1 is released.
But, in all honesty, ATI/AMD 'should' get this capture device worked out much sooner. It could be a problem related to the new 'security' of Vista and the DRM.
If anyone comes across something that can help get it fixed, we'll be among the first to know here at DH.

Yeah, sorry, I was going to respond when I saw this earlier but Dyre Straits said it. ATI has official Vista 32 bit drivers for this product, but they don't install correctly. I don't understand how that's possible, heh.

I beleive the error (fail) you are seeing is a bug in the installer/report generator.
We have posted an updated version of the driver to replace the 7.1 version. I have also seen problems where we can't actually find the XML file, browser dependance I believe. Just browse to,
C:\Program Files\ATI\CIM\Reports
And open up the latest report.
I believe that the only thing you see in DEV MAN <Sound, Video...> is a single entry for "ATI Unified AVStream Driver"

I think you can actually trick it into using the XP driver... I tricked alot of soundcards and other things into using XP drivers.'
That may not work the best for "total Vista compliance" but there it is for what its worth.

ATI TV Wonder 650
I just installed the board and software and I have a work around that works on Windows Vista.
1) Go to the CD and click on properties for the setup file
2) Go to the compatability tab
3) In the compatability tab select Windows XP
4) At the bottom of the screen select administrative access/ability
5) Go back to the CD and double click on setup again
