Pappa
let me walk once more
my father and I
telling lies and singing songs
counting clouds in the sky
will I go to heaven pappa
what happens when we die
hurry up son
lets get home for supper
big boys dont fret or cry.
warm sun and cool breeze
those summer days just passed us all by.
in the twilight of another english day
I wonder how he is, and hope he's well
and dream of pappa and a summer sky
Pappa gave me so much
and so many things I know from him I learned
my deepest affection for a man that held my hand
kept me from falling in the deep water and getting burned
from him I learned to be patient, from him I learned to be a man.

Indeed...you know...he is still working on cars and gadgets..but his mind is not very sharp anymore, and the years he carries now so heavily upon his crippled back, he fixed my sons car but time has taken its measure of flesh and bone. Dad labors on in his mind and watches the squirrels and birds feed, and he occasionally wanders about the backyard. If there were any regrets worth the pain of remembering it might be that he is so far away.

Oh no, I have seven sites I have to manage now, and Liz and I are always busy for the moment. We are driving to Germany to support another site on Memorial Day and I will visit my brother at his house there. We will call Dad then and wish him the best.
