Choose a career as a kid, and 9 times in 10 the answer won’t be a fireman, doctor or even a pilot – I think most of us wanted to be in a band touring the world, well I sure as hell knew I did. Very few however ever make the grade and end up working in a dull office somewhere, so if you fall into that category, fear not, cause RedOctane is set to unleash the rock god in us all !

Great review. Its awesome that its finally come to the xbox and has a chance to expand on the series with downloadables and nicer visuals\sound, but most of all this game really needs to be played by EVERYONE. I'm not even a rock fan and I absolutely love this game. I couldn't get enough of it when I first got it and I still play the original quite often. Throw in a freind or two and a few beers and there is no better gaming expirience. Deffo one of the best game franchises of all time.

I can honestly say, hand on heart, if you spend £70 on entertainment this month, get this game. Your lady will like it too, as if you get another controller you can play co operative mode, with her playing bass or guitar with you. You can also play head to head.
Problem is ive spent all my free time so far this weekend playing it with my brother/friends/myself. Im already getting pretty good. im just about to complete hard level, but man some of the tracks on hard level are pretty difficult. I have sore fingers now from trying to get a perfect (no missed notes) in megadeth's hangar 18 on hard level. (almost got it too)......
Loads of unlockable tracks too, and some of the realllllll heavy metal stuff you like Mike ! I also hear that they are planning around 50 more tracks this year for download too. so loads of long term playability here. Also they are planning "rock band" for later this year/next year which is taking this another step.
if you nail "freebird" on expert level then you are a guitar hero !

Not everybody. I didn't. It made my wrist ache pretty quickly (other people I talked with had the same problem), and IMO it's just a less fun version of DDR.

It Rocks :-)
You can't beat nailing through a song, when you think you're about to mess up and then all of a sudden you're flying through the solo on adrenline alone and you're not even thinking about it your fingers just seem to be doing it second nature.

Being a Bass Guitar player, this game is great for me to pick up and play. (aside from always overshooting the damn 5th button) All my friends that play regular guitar that have tried it thus far, have been immensely frustrated at it. "Man, i can play this song on the actual guitar, but i can't play it on a videogame guitar! " Still though, i've been a fan of this idea since i picked up 'Frets on Fire' for my pc a while ago. There's tons of replayability and random awesomeness (the drummer disappearing in a green cloud of smoke at the end of the Spinal Tap song)
Conclusion : buy this game. buy it. buy it now. buy it again for good measure.

What about the whammy bar update thing? My son wants this for his birthday, and I'm certainly up for it - but I read there were problems with a fix for the whammy bar 3RL some machines. I haven't been able to get on the Guitar Hero support site since Sunday (when I heard about it) to look at it. Anyone care to comment that might be in the know?

.. And don't forget when you're done with Guitar Hero 2 : you can plug the USB guitar into your PC to play some Frets on Fire! http://fretsonfire.sourceforge.net/
