So what's new with Gentoo?

I used to use Gentoo wayyy back when. Talking about the WoW 1.6.0 days last year. (lol, couldn't think of a better timestamp, ya know?) I remember x.org's x11 was it's own program you needed to install to convert the CLI to a GUI after the completion of the Gentoo Install (I believe they made it modular not long after I went back to Windows).

Basically, I'm wondering how much better Gentoo Linux has gotten, or Linux overall in terms of linux apps that'll let you run Windows apps and all.

I'm wondering this because recently I upgraded my hardware specs. Went from AMD Duron 1.1GHz to AM2 AMD Athlon64 3500+, Sapphire Radeon 9600 256MB to e-GeForce 7600GT 256MB DDR3, and much better RAM and mobo.

You can give Sabayon a try it's gentoo based and you can run it live.
Wine Cedega and Crossover Office are improving but I'd definately take a look and see if the apps you want to run are supported.

Thanks for the info Fuss. And that Sabayon looks promising, I'll have to keep my eye on it.

H3X4D3C1M4L will become famous soon enough
System Specs

Gentoo is still the same philosophy. Its my favorite Linux distro by far but I guess that's just my opinion. Nothing so much new with it that isn't just new stuff with Linux in general.
